Vacations And Holidays - Keep Pets Healthy And Safe On Air Flights

By Dorothy Yamich

Whenever your holiday or vacation travel plans involve taking an airline flight with your pet, you are part of a trend that has been increasing for a number of years. Here are some travel tips concerning flying on airlines with your pet when you are on holidays or vacations.

Most airlines, for a nominal fee, will allow your small pet to fly with you if it will fit in a FAA approved pet carrier that can be stowed under your seat. The following is some important information can help you keep your pet healthy, safe, and happy on airplane flights.

When you are booking a flight, it's a good idea to make reservations for yourself and your pet as early as possible. You have to let the airline know that you want to bring your pet with you. It's very important to tell them, as they will only allow a limited number of pets on each flight. Some airlines will not allow pets at all, especially on international flights. Make sure that you confirm your flight the day before you leave on your trip. If you are traveling internationally you need to confirm your flight seventy-two hours before you go.

Before you fly into the wide blue yonder with your furry travel companion, you need to take him or her a checkup at the vet, to make sure he or she is healthy enough to travel. You will need to take its health certificate with you, showing that your pet's up-to-date on all vaccinations, including rabies. When traveling, your pet must wear its current vaccination tag. As well, your pet must meet health regulations of the country you'll be traveling to. Bring a copy of your pet's medical records along that lists its chronic medical conditions, allergies, and medications.

If you haven't done this already, you should have your pet micro-chipped. That way, if your pet is lost and taken to an animal shelter or vet, where its chip can be scanned, both can be reunited. Keep in mind your pet's identification tag will have both your home address and phone number on it. That won't be of much help if your pet gets lost when you are on vacation. It may be a good idea to get another tag made up that has your destination address and phone number on it. What happens if you pet isn't found until after you've returned from your holidays? It makes sense that you should leave both your home I.D. tag on your pet as well as attaching the new tag. That way you'll have all the bases covered and stand a better chance of being reunited with your pet.

You should carry a photo of you pet with you when you're traveling. It will help you prove that you are the rightful owner if any problems of ownership occur. Also, the photo can be used to make up flyers to post in the area where your pet was lost.

Flying with a pet that is too large to fit in a FAA approved pet carrier isn't advisable as it will have to be stowed in the cargo hold. Putting your pet in the cargo hold can be very traumatic and dangerous to your pet's health. It would make a lot more sense to leave your pet with friends, or a reliable pet sitting service when you're on vacation.

The American Veterinary Medical Association does not recommend sedating or tranquilizing your pet when flying, especially dogs. Dogs regulate their body temperature when they pant, so when they are tranquilized or sedated, they may not be able to pant. If this happens, it may leave them defenseless against the fluctuation of air pressure and temperature that occurs in the cargo hold of every flight. Also, keep in mind that pets do not enjoy flying, or being locked up in a cramped kennel and left alone in a dark and desolate cargo hold. It must be very terrifying for them.

There are many websites that have additional valuable information on traveling with your pet. Two wonderful sites are the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ASPCA) at aspca.org, and the Department of Agriculture at aphis.usda.gov, which has an excellent article called, Traveling With Your Pet.

If you are considering purchasing a travel carrier for your small pet, you may want to look at the popular, FAA approved pet carrier, Sherpa On Wheels. This Cadillac of pet carriers can be a comfortable, luxurious home for your pet when flying. It has the convenience of front and top entries, mesh vent panels, wheels that are recessed, as well as a detachable pull handle and shoulder strap. It can be seen at SherpaPet.com.

Is Your Dog Aggressive? Follow These Tips To Get Rid Of Dog Aggression

By Carl Covason

A major problem many dog owners face is dog aggression. Not only is it trying for the dog owner to deal with an aggressive dog but it can be hazardous as well.

Before you do anything else you should find out what exactly pushes your dogs buttons that makes him act aggressive.

Do they exhibit dog aggression towards other dogs?

If your dog is showing dog on dog aggression then one of the ways to relieve this problem is by making sure your dog's attention is not on the dog he is passing.

If you know anything about dog training and dog training commands then you might be familiar with the command "Watch Me". This is a great command to use when your dog is getting near another dog because what the command means is for your dog to look you in the eye and give you his full attention.

If you are able to get your dogs attention on you then you have a great chance that they will walk right by the other dog without getting aggressive.

You also need to make sure your dog is not looking directly in the other dogs eyes. When dogs make direct eye contact they are issuing a challenge on who the leader is out of the two. When both dogs think they are the stronger leader that's when dog on dog aggression comes out to play.

Another way your dog might be aggressive is with his food. Some dogs will get aggressive when they are eating and get very territorial. If you dog is aggressive when he is eating then you need to make sure children are not around him anytime he has food or a bone.

One thing you can do is make sure your dog does not get to eat his meal until everyone else in the family has eaten and finished their meal. This will let the dog know that he is the low man on the totem pole which is very important when trying to curb dog aggression.

Stop A Barking Dog

By Matt Closson

Gain your Dogs Respect

Your dog looks to you for leadership and must respect that leadership in order to be a well behaved and a happy pet. If a dog barks until you give in, there is no respect being given by your dog. You are being harassed into giving your dog what he/she wants. Giving into your dogs barking demands by reacting (punishing or rewarding) you are reinforcing your dogs barking behavior. By reacting, whether it is to discipline your dog for barking or to give them what they want, you have effectively trained your dog to make noise and keep it up until you respond.

Play-time, rewards and affection are all important parts of a dogs life, but you must be in control of when and where they are given. If your dog learns barking is the way to get the things it wants, you are going to have a very noisy house. Your neighbors may not like it much either.

To prevent this bullying behavior in your dog from assuming a familiar role in her repertoire of communications, you have to prove to her that you're not the kind of person that can be manipulated so easily. It's simple to do this: all you have to do is ignore her. I'm not talking about passive ignorance, where you pay her no attention and simply continue with whatever it was you were doing - you need to take more of an active role. This means conveying to her through your body language that she is not worthy of your attention when she acts in such an undesirable manner.

When your dog barks to try to get you to do something for him or her and this behavior is unwarranted, simply turn your back to them, right away. Don't look at them, don't make eye contact, don't even say "no!", totally give then the "cold shoulder". If this means getting up and turning your back to them, than do it. This will confuse your dog for a minute, but be ready for more barking. In fact, the barking my become worse before it gets better. It only makes sense, the barking has worked for your dog in the past, why wouldn't work again.

As in all aspects of dog training, consistency is very important. You must ensure that you don't change your mind halfway through and give in to what she wants - because by doing so, you're teaching her to be really, really persistent ("OK, so I just need to bark for ten minutes instead of five to get a walk," is the message she'll get). But what can you do in other situations where bullying isn't an issue and you just want her to stop the racket? If you want to get the message across that you'd like her to cease fire and be quiet, the most effective thing you can do is to use your hands. No, I'm not talking about hitting her: this is a perfectly humane, impact- and pain-free method of conveying that what you require right now is peace and quiet.

You can do this by:

when she's barking, give her a second to 'get it out of her system' (it's a lot kinder, and a lot more effective, to give her a chance - however brief - to express herself before asking her to be quiet). If she doesn't calm down under her own steam, reach out and clasp her muzzle gently, but firmly, in your hand. She'll try to shake you off, or back away, so you can place your other hand on her collar to give you greater control. This method is useful for two reasons: firstly, it effectively silences the barking (since no dog, no matter how loud, can bark with her mouth shut!). Secondly, it reinforces your authority: you're showing her through direct physical action that you're a benevolent but firm leader who will brook no nonsense, and who won't balk when it comes to enforcing your guidance.

Hold onto your dogs muzzle and collar until they stop trying to break free: only when your dog stops trying to break free does it mean that they have accepted your authority. When your dog has become still, hold for one or two seconds longer then let go and praise them. In addition to this short term method, lets take a look that some things we can do to reduce the amount of barking altogether.

Unwarranted or excessive unwanted barking(repetitive barking directed at nothing) can usually be calmed by more attention and exercise. Most dogs respond best to at lease 90 minutes of exercise a day. This can very depending on the dog, it's breed, age and health. If you feel you exercise your dog as much as you possibly can, but your dog still barks too much and shows signs of an agitated demeanor(fidgeting, acting more aggressively than you'd like, restless or destructive) chances are your dog needs more exercise to burn up that energy.

The good news is you can fix this problem fairly easily: you will just have to exercise your dog a little more. Try working in an extra half hour of exercise a day, that 30 minutes a day can make a world of difference. If this is impossible, you may consider hiring some one to walk your dog for you. If this is still impossible, you may have to except the fact that you are going to have a loud, frustrated and agitated dog until things change.

Too much 'alone time' is another common cause of excessive barking. Dogs are social animals: they require a lot of interaction, attention and communication. With out these things, a dog can get anxious and edgy. If your at home and not paying enough attention to your dog, and he/she spends a lot of time barking at what appears to be nothing, it might be time for a good dose of tender loving care.

Training Your Dog At Home

By Charles Mackey

Dogs can be considered to be clean animals. They would rather not dirty the area where they eat and sleep. They also have tendencies to eliminate on grass or dirt rather on concrete or gravel. With this natural tendencies of your dog, you can train them rapidly and successful at your home.

To start training your dog, you need to set up a few things in your house. One, you will need to have an established living area for your dog. It can be a bathroom, a part of the kitchen or a garage. You will also need to spend time with your dog in its area. It should also be able to play, eat and sleep in this area. And make sure that you have a special bed placed in his den. It can be an open crate or a large cardboard box. Do not get frustrated if your dog eliminates in its area. It will only do this in the beginning, but once he figure out that this is its own space, it will avoid dirtying the place.

Once your dog gets comfortable with his own bed, you can now move it anywhere you want inside the house. You can also leash your dog to yourself so that your dog can follow you around your home and you can monitor his behavior.

Second, you should create a toilet for your dog. Ensure that your dog can enter his toilet anytime he needs to. At first you should guide your dog to eliminate in this area until he is comfortable using this area as his toilet. To make it easy for you and your dog, make a habitual feeding program. Hence, you will know when your dog will eliminate, and you can guide him to his toilet area. For a fit adult dog, it can control his bladder and bowel for almost 8 hours.

Most importantly, avoid confining your dog to an area where it won't have access to its toilet area. This is not good, as your dog will develop a habit of soiling itself, its bed or its den. And this will also make it difficult for you to train your dog.

One way to speed up the natural house training process is to praise and reward your dog every time he eliminates in his toilet area. It is also important not to shout at your dog for accidents and mistakes. This usually confuses a dog and can slow down house training process.

Too large den can sometimes make your dog eliminate in that area. Try making his den a bit smaller and take your dog more frequently to his toilet area. Also, urinary problems and medical conditions can cause your dog to dirty his bed while he sleeps. And lastly, dogs eliminate frequently if he drinks too much water out of boredom or habit. Try to limit his water and give him activities so that he isn't bored. Remember that if a den is not properly introduce to your dog, he might feel as if he is a prison and will show signs of anxiety, barking, chewing and whining. So, make sure your dog is enjoying his den.

How To Resolve Cat Behavior Problems

By Melissa Fielden

The modern lifestyle of today has brought new possibilities for many animal lovers to achieve the role of being responsible cat owners. However, the path of responsible pet rearing is not as simple as it may seem. This is because in the course of your pet ownership, you will come across several cat behavior problems that you may find too challenging to deal with. This may actually be surprising for some because they don't know that behind the cat's cuddly image and harmless demeanor, they can turn into the one of the most temperamental creatures they've ever seen.

The occurrence of these cat behavior problems may be rooted to the personality of your pet. Contrary to the beliefs of many, each cat is different from the other. This means that there is no single way in dealing with these problems. Each case may have a different solution and the cure for one problem may solve or worsen another. Experts have found that cat behavior problems are most likely triggered by some things or events that your cat does not like. The following are some of the most common cat behavior problems and some tips to deal with them.

Aggression- This is the one of the most frequent cat behavior problems a cat owner will encounter. This is when the cat becomes too aggressive on other cats, animals or even people. They may display these aggressive tendencies by intimidating them. This happens when a cat gets really stressed out or gets frustrated over something. Sometimes this causes damages in home furniture and upholstery.

Fortunately, cat behavior problems such as this can be solved by giving your cat some proper training. You can train your cat on how to deal with aggression by diverting it to other things or activities. You can give your cat things to play with such as a ball or a yarn. You can also purchase a scratching post for it to get its claw on. This method will surely relieve your cat's stress levels and will contribute in dispersing excess energy and tension.

Shyness- A cat may feel shyness or awkwardness when in the presence of strangers or even your friends that it does not know. This is because the cat does not feel comfortable on things that it isn't familiar with. With proper training and familiarization, you can help your cat get over his or her inhibitions.

Other common cat behavior problems may include your cat having difficulty using the litter box or litter pan properly. In many cases, this may be due to the fact that you are failing to change the kitty litter regularly. Remember that problems with your feline companion that have to do with urination and bowel movement usually take place when your cat finds it difficult to consider his or her litter pan sanitary. It is, therefore, your duty as cat owner to make at least two changes of kitty litter every day. In this way, your cat's behavioral problems involving litter box habits can more easily be avoided.

Some experts advise pet owners to direct the cat to litter on the litter pan, and the best way to do this is to implement the good old reward and punishment program. There are dozens more cat behavior problems that one may encounter but nothing can't be corrected by proper training and undying effort to teach your pet what is right.

How To Get Rid Of Dog Fleas Guide

By Matt Adams

Dog fleas are a problem that too many of us have been plagued with, but more importantly too many of our beloved pets have been plagued with. Getting rid of fleas is not an easy task, but with the proper plan and a certain amount of diligence it is possible to live a flea free life again. Let's go through the steps necessary to get rid of fleas and keep them from coming back.

Before you make a plan, it's important to realize a couple of things. One, fleas on your dog are only about 5% of the total fleas in and around your house. Two, live fleas are also only part of the infestation - flea eggs, larvae and pupae will all be present, and even when all live fleas have been killed, those eggs, larvae and pupae will develop into more fleas over the next two weeks unless they are dealt with as well.

1 - Kill the fleas in your house - first put your dog outside so that fleas will not be infesting your house as you get rid of them. Pick up everything from the floors, like dog toys, blankets, beds, any of your clothing, etc. This means everywhere - under beds, inside your closets, behind curtains. Wash everything, make sure to use the hot cycle. Wash anything that your pet is in close contact with extra well, and hang items to dry in the sunlight.

Go through the entire house and vacuum as thoroughly as possible, making sure to get under all beds, as close to the walls as possible, under and behind furniture. Also vacuum any upholstered items in the areas your dog frequents. Once this is done, throw out the vacuum bag so fleas don't re-emerge or hatch and re-emerge. Use soap and water to clean all hard surfaces, including closet floors, garage floors, and patio decks. Once everything has been thoroughly cleaned to get rid of obvious fleas, arrange to leave the house while you have a flea treatment. Make sure not to come back until the recommended time has passed and the treatment has been allowed to dry thoroughly.

2 - Rid your outdoor spaces of fleas - any fleas that are outside the home are a problem as well, since they will be brought back into the house again the first time you dog visits these areas. At the same time that you are having your house treated for fleas, it is a good idea to have your yard and any other outdoor space treated as well. Remember to pay special attention to dark humid places where fleas typically like to hide, such as corners, cracks, and underneath things like your patio deck.

3 - Get rid of fleas on your dog - now is the time to get rid of the adult fleas on your dog. Give your dog a bath with dog shampoo, and then thoroughly dry him. Once he is dry, double check that all fleas have been killed by going over your dog with a flea comb. It's probably a good idea to throw your dog washing clothes in the laundry, just in case some fleas jumped to you for safety during the bath.

4 - Get rid of fleas for the next two weeks - this step is as important as the first three steps combined. There will be a number of flea eggs, larvae and pupae that were not caught by the initial treatment, so it is important to continue vacuuming (remember to dispose of the vacuum bag each time) and washing items that may contain these pre adult fleas over the next two weeks. If you don't do this follow-up to keep fleas at bay, you will simply have an entirely new batch of fleas to deal with in one or two weeks time.

Stop Your Dog From Digging Up Your Garden - 4 Easy Ways To Get Your Garden Back

By Remco van Reenen

Stop your dog from digging in the garden, but give him an alternative, because they see digging as a challenge and a way to entertain themselves.

Gardens are a wonderful playground for dogs. They can't resist digging up moles and rodents, and especially the smell of some roots drive them crazy and they will dig until they find the source of the scent.

Having said that, lets look at some practical ways for you to stop your dog from destroying your garden:

1. If your dog starts digging while you are working in the garden, ensure that your garden hose is fitted to a sprinkler. When your dog starts digging around where you work, quietly turn on the tap and scare him with a burst of water. Do this a few times while you are outside with him. He will quickly realize that digging means a burst of water from sprinkler. It's not you, but the sprinkler who is correcting him. This is good because you do not want your dog to see you as the one who is spoiling his fun.

2. If this doesn't work, get a strong water pistol from a store. Walk around the places where he is digging and start shooting him with the water. Don't shoot directly into his eyes as you could cause damage. He will not like it because the water is interrupting his play time and will get annoyed after a while. Do this also a few times until he gets the message. You must not say anything during this time. He must be brought to believe that it's the water that is disciplining him and not you.

3. If he is hyperactive and seems to chew and dig indiscriminately, then he might be bored sick. You have to take him out of his surroundings. By this I mean you need to take him for long walks every day. He is telling you that he cannot being alone at home and acts up the only way he can. He will start looking forward to his walks and will gradually stop vandalizing your garden.

4. Lastly, try giving him his own patch of garden to dig and play in. Make it attractive for him by burying treasures like toys and bones in his area. Get excited when you show him how to dig them up. This will become a really nice way to Stop your dog from digging in the garden, as he will discover his own playground is much better fun than yours.

Animal Communication Makes Animal Healing More Effective!

By James French

In the last Ten years there have been many animal healing methods developed. Adding to the older traditional systems such as acupuncture for animals to the newer methods such as the Trust Technique. These animal healing applications are all working to help animals balance energetic levels. In this article I would like to share with you how animal communication can benefit any of these animal healing methods.

So how many different methods are there for healing animals? Reiki for animals, Mctimoney chiropractic for animals, Spiritual healing, The Trust Technique, Body spin, Tellington Touch, Bowen for animals and this list continues!

When we take a closer look at the these methods we soon realise that healing animals looks at the animal as a whole being. This holistic approach does not just look at the animal as a physical being but also as emotional and spiritual.

When one part of the animal is out of balance this can have a huge effect on other parts of the animal. For example emotional tension will also be holding tension within the body. Over time the body will not function properly and ailments can accrue.

Animal communication taps into the emotional, physical and spiritual feelings of the animal. This is the reason why it is so beneficial to animal healing.

Communicating with animals is not the same as how we communicate with people. We use a language of words that animals can not copy. What we can share with them is far stronger that this word structure. We share raw feelings with them, for love to fear!

Animal communication helps animal healing in a number of different ways. To start with understanding the animals pain helps us to treat it! Also the ability to be empathic is very compassionate, this is it own right is incredibly healing. Especially when we realize that communication is a two way process and is not always about picking feelings up but also delivering feelings. Sharing feeling of peace and comfort can dramatically increase the trust levels between the animal and the human and consequently healing!

How does this work with other animal healing methods?. With any healing there has to be a feeling of trust between the giver and receiver. So when we create this trust using animal communication before the healing session it deepens the effectiveness, as the animal is more open.

You will be communicating with animals if your are practising animal healing. You may not be fully are of this communication, but this will not take much to change! Dog Training Information

By Matt Closson

It is know world wide among respected dog trainers that the most efficient and kind way to train a dog is though positive reinforcement training. A simple theory that sounds harder than it is.

Rewarding the desired behavior you want your dog to repeat, while ignoring the undesired behavior, is positive reinforcement. This method has replaced the now outdated old world of dog training that at times could be very cruel. Inflicting physical pain and intimidation, such as choking an aggressive dog or using shock collars as corrective techniques.

Your dogs natural instinct is to please you, this is why positive reinforcement is so effective. This theory instills your lessons in a more meaningful way with a long lasting effect. When your dog is able to "get" what you are teaching in there own time instead of being forced into submission.(learning "down" by being force down repeatedly v.s. rewarding your dog and saying "down" when your dog naturally lies down).

When you use positive reinforcement training, you're allowing her the time and the opportunity to use her own brain. Some ways for you to facilitate the training process:

- You need meaningful rewards. Dogs can get tired of the pat on the head and a "good boy". ( many dogs don't take kindly to a pat on the head.)

- You can tell if a dog doesn't like its head beaning touched, does he or she cower or bark when a hand comes down to them? It is better to use "primary intensives", such as food or a more physical reward.

- In other words, they're both significant rewards that most dogs respond powerfully and reliably to.

Hopefully this article given you a good basic insight into the more helpful attitudes and techniques to use when training your dog. However, the subject remains pretty complex, and it's a good idea to learn as much about effective training techniques as possible.

School For Dogs

By David Jones

If you are considering bringing a new canine addition to your home, there are several things to consider. Having the right tools and the proper training will make the transition to a dog-owner family easier on you and your dog. While it is viable to trains dogs yourself, those who don't have experience working with dogs will be wise to invest in a dog training course.

If you already have a dog, perhaps you have seen the show "It's Me or the Dog" and thought - that sounds like me! If your dog is running your house, perhaps you should consider dog training school. Many times dogs misbehave not because they are bad, but because the owners don't know how to train them properly. Investing in a training program for you and your pooch will create a happy and peaceful relationship.

Pet owners tend to get caught in a power struggle with the dog. Dog training includes learning the right body language and tone of voice, as well as a reward system for your dog that still leaves you in control. Owning a dog is like having a child, and sometimes some outside advice can be a lifesaver.

Dog training also allows dogs to learn how to socialize with other people and other dogs. Learning how to behave around others is imperative when taking your dog out. A dog obedience course provides friendships for both dogs and their owners.

Dog owners that participate in a class with a formal setting will be taught commands in the premium environment. The instructor will be able to teach the owner to speak so the dog understands, and will be able to model body language needed to get results from your dog. There are tips that while simple, are often not well known to the general public. An instructor will be able to watch you work with your dog and to modify things that need work.

When working in a class setting, your dog will have the advantage of learning with distractions. This is an advantage, since once the dog goes home where there are not the distractions, the skill set should transfer easily. This works better than adding distractions after a skill is learned, where the distraction will actually make the dog forgetful.

By enrolling your dog in a dog training program, you are on the way to a long, satisfying friendship. A well trained dog will ultimately be more secure, well behaved and confident. Being able to trust his owner will give consistent results in behavior. Dogs will also be more predictable around visitors and children when the owner is in charge.

A well trained dog will give you the full benefits of dog ownership. Not only will you have a faithful companion, but there are other benefits of dog ownership you may not have thought of. Lower instances of illness, an exercise partner, and a conversation piece for social interaction are a few. Dog ownership is a delight for the owner and the dog.

Dogs Live Long And Healthy With Organic Pet Food

By Lee Reid

The concern to eat healthy foods seems to equally apply to humans and pets, since many animal owners prefer to buy organic products to feed their four-legged friends. The offer for organic dog food is incredibly large. Just like for humans, there are unsurpassed health issues that one could put a stop to or prevent in the first place.

A pet fed on organic dog food will show a lower incidence of skin diseases for instance. The explanation for the positive health impact is the lack of additives, chemicals, colorants or pesticides. Instead there will be just grain extracts and high quality proteins as ingredients of organic dog food.

Organic dog food also offers more nutrients, and this aspect is reflected in the most relevant of ways in the higher levels of energy and the healthy weight of the pet. Regular dog food is often behind diabetes and overweight with all the additional problems that accompany these illnesses: poor mobility, bone ailments and organ failure. What's the trick about organic dog food here? Well, organic food items for pets are free of bulk fillers, these products are packed with nutrients to generate energy and not fat. Yet, it is best and a lot easier to prevent health issues than to treat them after-wards.

Good digestion and overall stronger immunity: these are other main benefits that come together with the use of organic dog food. While the chemicals in dog food often make the dog vomit or cause it diarrhea, such problems will no longer be the case with organic dog food. A healthier metabolism is thus what you will mainly achieve with a constant healthy diet. Then, the quality of the nutritional substances in organic dog food boosts up the immunity functions eliminating the risk for infections and all sorts of specific diseases that affect dogs on a common basis.

All in all, veterinarian experts claim that with organic dog food, the life span of any animal can increase significantly, not to mention the fact that it will go a lot better through old age. In the majority of cases, pet owners that choose organic dog food, normally use organic products for their meals too. You can inquire about organic dog food with the pet food supplier, and if you don't find what you need with the local shop, try the online order. Lots of web sites sell organic dog food for very good prices.

Housetraining Your Dog Using A Cage

By Karen Taylor

Many of the dog owners today struggle with the problem of house training. Although many methods have worked to solve this problem, there are some dog owners that resort to drastic ways out of frustration and desire to have their dog house trained quickly.

To get the sort of behavior that you want for your dog, the owner must pick a training method that best fits their pet. Some dogs train easily using constant supervision, but others must be trained using paper or a cage. It's also acceptable to combine these methods.

Cage training can be very efficient, but it also comes with certain issues. Some people believe that using a cage in housebreaking or any other training in general is being inhumane and therefore should not be used on dogs. Contrary to this thought patter, cage training has been shown to be one of the most efficient and effected methods for training both dogs and puppies.

Why? First, because dogs are den dwelling creatures. For centuries dogs have been known to go to a den if they wanted warmth in cold weather or to cool of in the heat. They consider their den as their home in which they are safe from harm. Therefore a cage should feel like home for them - not a cage!

Secondly, dogs like to keep their home and bed clean and will be reluctant to soil in their cage. By confining your pet to their own den, they will learn how to control their bodily functions until the proper time presents itself. Puppies need to be taken out more often than older dogs because they have limited control of their bowels and bladder. Taking these steps will help your puppy establish a schedule for bathroom trips.

Cages come in various styles and materials. You can buy one from your local pet supply store, hardware or pet section in some department stores. When you purchase a cage for your pet, consider their needs and consider why you are buying the cage. If you travel, consider purchasing a cage made of plastic for your dog, as wire cages will not protect them from extremes of temperature. Another thing that you want to take into consideration is the size of the cage. Buying a new create when he has outgrown the old one costs a lot of money. So that is why it would wise to purchase a large crate, that way you can block the excess section so that your dog doesn't soil it, that way you can place your dog in the other half during the night for him to stay in.

Be consistent and persistent when housetraining your dog using a cage. Doing this will allow you to put the house breaking problems in the past.

A Few Things To Learn About The Eskimo Dog Breed

By Shela Cagard

Of all the dog breeds out there, one of the fluffiest and cutest is the American Eskimo puppy. It originated from the Spitz family and is considered a Nordic breed. Once brought to America, its name was modified to the American Eskimo dog. It was originally connected to the white German Spitz. They changed the name because after World War I, there were general anti-German sentiments. They are now considered to be two separate breeds but the two a very similar. A Few Things About The Eskimo Dog Breed

The American Eskimo Dog Club of America was created in 1985 and was was included into the AKC in the Non-Sporting Group. They come in three sizes, the standard, miniature, and the toy. The standard size will achieve a height of 15 to 19 inches, and will weigh between 18 and 35 pounds. A miniature will be 12-15 inches tall and weigh 10-20 pounds. A toy dog will be 9-12 inches high and weigh six to ten pounds.

The American Eskimo dog is a balanced, compact Nordic type dog, despite being a small to medium size dog . When it walks or run you will see an elegeant gait. The dog is also very energetic. There are very characteristic black points on the dogs face which are around the eye rims, lips and on the nose. The ears also have the black points and are triangular shaped and stand erect.

This type of dog has two folds to the coat. The under-coat consists of short dense hairwhile the outer coat grows through the undercoat with long guard hair. This feature gives the dog a double coat. Around the neck and chest the coat is much thicker and makes a ruff similar to a loins. This characteristic is more marked on a male than on the female. The tail is loosely carried on its back and is really plum. The color of the American Eskimo dog should be biscuit cream or pure white.

As a baby, the American Eskimo is a little conservative but is generally friendly. They are really intelligent and highly energetic. If you want a protective dog then this is a good breed due to its alertness they will bark when someone is approaching. They do not generally threaten to bite or attack people, but they are protective around their area and family. It is also very quick and eager to take up new tricks.

Though this breed is mostly healthy there are a few things it is susceptible to, like progressive retinal atrophy and hip displaysia. Owners should pay close attention to any changes in the tear ducts or eyes. Try to clean the coat free of fleas to prevent dermatitis.

This kind of dog is very active and is best fit for living in an area with a backyard where it can run and play. It can become overweight very easily so regular exercise is a must. It is okay in an apartment as long as you have a place for it to run around. You should brush the dog at least twice a week with a comb or brush with firm bristles. The breed does not really shed heavily, but when it does shed then increase the brushing schedule to daily and wash only when needed.

Natural Flea Repellent for Dogs - More Beneficial than Commercial Treatment

By Larry Ginger

If your dog is contaminated with fleas then you should realize that there are options to the well known anti flea treatments that are obtainable in popular pet shops and grocery stores. These are natural flea repellent for dogs that are handy in specialty pet stores and internet herbal pet shops. A lot of people today are becoming aware of the value of trying herbal remedies to treat the different disorders that are affecting animals such as dogs.

Natural remedies are regarded as safer, not only to animals but more than that, to humans and likewise to the environment. With the current situation of the planet, we need to all contribute to helping create a better environment for the present and future generations to take pleasure in. One way to do this is to buy natural products that are gentle to the earth and won't create devastation.

Natural flea repellent for dogs are composed with herbs and other offerings from mother nature that are competent in staving off fleas. These are ingredients that are harmless to humans and are actually pleasing to the smell but are annoying to infestations such as fleas. Your dogs will also like a natural flea repellent for dogs as a result of the fact that they don't embody material that could cause allergies and other discomfort.

Some of the most common components based in these flea repellents incorporate lavender, rosemary and eucalyptus which are all pleasant smelling ingredients but are powerful in eliminating fleas and other parasites. Lavender for example is a very fragrant ingredient but it is a substance that fleas really hate. The same is accurate with eucalyptus.

Another advantage of applying a natural flea repellent for dogs is that they are good for the aspect that they are designed to treat. This is for the simple fact that holistic treatments aid the general health and wellness of pets and not only treat specific symptoms the way conventional remedies do. Eucalyptus for example is not only good as a flea repellent, it is also an effective anti-inflammatory that is effective in caring for skin irritations.

The best reason though, to change from conventional flea repellents to natural treatments is for the fact that the latter is free from harm. Conventional treatments include chemicals and other synthetic ingredients that can be crude to the senses and can cause more harm than good before all else when used for a drawn out period of time.

A Safe Guide To Clipping Your Dog

By Cliff Stone

Very few people see clipping their dogs as an art. Instead, they tackle areas like scraggly hair on the feet to keep their pets from tracking in mud. They mostly ignore other areas. However, in an effort to get rid of undesirable hair growth, many dog owners forget that they can hurt their dogs.

When you decide to clip your dog's fur, keep his breed in mind. If you clip a longer haired breed incorrectly, dust accumulates in the coat, causing skin problems. In addition, parasites like ticks and fleas can move and breed more freely if your dog's coat isn't card for or clipped correctly.

You also need to trip your dog's toenails correctly to keep them from breaking accidentally and making walking painful. Longer nails will tend to twist sideways, and in serious cases even dig into the foot and cause injury. Dogs with overly long claws will often catch them on hard surfaces, splitting or breaking them.

Injuries also easily occur during clipping of nails. The quick of the nail will bleed it it's cut. This is the source of blood supplying the nail, as well as where the nerves are located. This keeps the nail alive and growing. However, this area is situated far back inside the nail, and will only be exposed if you cut the nail too short or if it splinters. This can be sensitive or painful.

To cut your dog's hair and nails, always use the sharpest clippers you can, and choose the right tools. Human nail clippers are wrong for dogs' nails - use ones purchased at your local pet supply store instead. There are a number of great new nail clippers out there that are made to keep pain and damage to a minimum.

If you live somewhere with a cold climate, avoid clipping your dog in winter unless you have to. The winter can put a lot of stress on your dog, particularly if your dog's coat is not long enough to protect her from the snowy weather and chilly climate. Remember that humans aren't the only ones to get frostbite.

In the summer, make sure you don't clip your dog's hair too short. If you do, you'll be exposing his skin to the sun - a dog's fur helps keep him cool in hot weather. Shortening the hair is okay, but don't cut the hair so short the skin shows.

Don't clip your dog when he or she is ill, since it can stress your pet even more. Clip only when needed to get rid of broken nails or dirty fur.

Walking your dog on concrete daily can help keep him or her healthy. This will help you wear down the nail on a gradual basis and will keep them even. That way, you and your dog don't have to go through the clipping process.

Of course, to get the best results, you'll want to find a professional groomer who knows the correct way to clip particular breeds.

Tips to Care for Your Diabetic Cat

By David Perron

Cat care takes on a whole new level when your pet has diabetes. We all want our pets to enjoy a long and normal life and following the tips in this article will help make that possible. It is unfortunate that cats have their own version of diabetes, also a serious affliction among humans. It is also important for pet owners to know how feline diabetes affects cats and how they can help make life better for their pets by learning how to better care for them.

There are two types of feline diabetes that may affect your pet cats. Type 1 is caused by an insufficient production of insulin while type 2 diabetes is characterized by the inability of the cat's body to process insulin more effectively. And just like in humans, diabetes can also strike cats at any age but is more likely to affect older cats. There is also a secondary feline diabetes that can be caused by drugs or by some diseases that may impair the natural processing of insulin in the body.

Owners often discover their cat has diabetes through routine cat care. Your cat may exhibit unusual thirst and urination, lose weight unexplainably, have vomit, weakness, a decrease in appetite and a change in skin/coat.

Cats experiencing any of these symptoms need to have a checkup with the vet. Taking your cat for a diabetes test can help determine if sugar levels are normal. The vet will take one reading and may decide to do a second reading for a true result. This is because some cats will have the sugar levels rise due to stress, giving a false reading the first time.

There is not a cure for cat diabetes right now, but through good cat care them symptoms can be controlled. Through diet and careful weight management, you cat can still live a happy life. Your vet may recommend a diet high in fiber, and containing complex carbs. Weight management is most important for extremely obese cats. Diet will not only help with weight, but will also normalize sugar levels.

Pet owners with a diabetic cat can plan on monitoring the cat's glucose and insulin levels every day. This may include reading sugar levels and administering insulin shots. Talk to your vet about dietary supplements for your cat as well. Cat care for feline diabetes must be consistent and carefully done, because even a small overdose of insulin may be fatal to your cat.

Cat care and diabetes always go hand in hand to ensure that your pet cat can lead a normal life. Providing the right care for diabetic pet cats can make sure that pet cat owners can enjoy the company of their pet for as long as possible. The genuine concern that is shown through proper care given your diabetic cats demonstrates the love you have for your dear companion.

Showing physical aggression toward your puppy will not advance your training but as a matter of fact, it will hinder it from progressing. It is very important to treat your dog like a dog and not like a small toy. I have seen many pet owners dress, cuddle and baby their dogs, which is very unhealthy. Many people do this because dogs have a tendency to be cute and cuddly. Our pets are not there for us to smother them with hugs, but they have basic needs that must be met. They all have distinct personalities as well.

The correct dog puppy training is what is needed to have a joyous and happy relationship with you and your animal being in the same house together.

Fashionable Dog Coat For The 21st Century

By Dylan Brodderick

When I was young our schnauzer had a form fitted black and red plaid coat. The fabric was rough. It always looked a bit dirty and the under the belly buttons were difficult to access and the buttons seemed to large for the button holes. As a result we only managed to wrestle the coat on to the unwilling dog once or twice at the start of each winter and for the balance of the winter the poor dog was cold.

In current times there are hundreds of dog coat options ranging from the plain and simple to the extra-fancy, from the reasonably priced to the super expensive. There are water-proof coats and insulated coats and light weight coats. There are coats more suitable to short haired dogs and coats more suitable to longer haired dogs. There are coats that your dog can step into, coats that wrap around, and coats that are similar to a cape with a waist fastener. Some of the models designed for larger dogs have pockets for owners to carry items such as newspapers, magazines or a small amount of groceries.

Dog coats come in a wide range of designs and colours. Some dog coats include safety features such as bells and reflective stripes. There are so many options that it can be difficult to choose the right dog coat for your dog. Below are the four most important considerations in choosing a coat for your dog.

1. Regional weather. Is the coat needed to protect your dog from the elements or is it a style thing? If you live in a temperate climate and the temperature rarely goes below freezing then you needn't worry too much about the insulation factor of the coat and, in fact, should be careful that the coat doesn't make your dog overheat. If you live in an area that has severe winters then you should look for a coat that is both insulated and wind proof and uses fabrics such as gortex. You may also want to look for a coat that is water proof especially if you live in an area that experiences freezing rain.

2. Washable. Dog coats can get awfully dirty during the course of a winter and especially during the spring thaw. I would only consider getting a dog coat that is machine washable. The amount of washing will depend on your dog and the areas in which you allow your dog to play and exercise. On average you should expect to wash her coat in the mid-season and again before you put it away for the summer.

3. How will you dog behave while being dressed? Is he or she a wiggler? If the coat is tricky to put on then your dog will likely have a cold winter. Look for a coat with easy to handle closures such as good quality zippers or Velcro strip fasteners

4. Size. Before shopping for your dog coat make sure you measure your dog. Measure the dog from the base of his neck to the start of his tail. Measure again the circumference if his neck and add 1 inch. Measure again around the broadest part of his chest and add one inch. With these measurements in hand you should be able to to choose a coat that will fit your dog appropriately.

Small Dog Terrors - Is Your Dog A Tiny Terror?

By Sally Alexander

Small dog owners all over the world love and cherish their pets, but has your small dog become the terror of the seven seas? They may be small, but they can certainly cause a big headache if they develop small dog syndrome.

Spotting a dog that has small dog syndrome isn't difficult. All you have to do is look for the overly aggressive, extremely yappy, and overly protective pooch.

Because of their size, a small dog can cause trouble and get away with it much more easily than a large dog can. For one they aren't nearly as loud when they bark, so they can get away with barking for longer, or they can be allowed to continue to bark because it can be ignored.

Not only does the size help them out, but so does their cuteness. Many owners will baby their pride and joy which will only encourage the behavior. When a small dog barks and is acting aggressive towards a visitor, many owners will pick them up and try to quiet them down by petting them and talking to them. To the dog this is like telling them "good job".

As you can see, it is easy to let a cute, cuddly, small dog act out of control. When a newcomer comes to the house it is easy to let them keep yapping away without correcting their behavior.

How a dog acts on your lap can tell if they have small dog syndrome. Nipping or barking at anyone that gets close to you may be seen as protective behavior, but in reality it is the dog's way of saying that they own this human.

Why do they act this way? Is it because of their size? A dog acts like this because it is allowed to act like that. If it was trained not to and not allowed to continue the bad behavior it would no longer be acting like a tiny terror.

Small dog syndrome is not permanent unless you continue to let them get away with it. With consistent training and discipline your dog will learn it can't act that way, and become a happier and better behaved companion.

How To Perfect Dog Ownership

By Jenash Muldavi

1. Shouting and being to violent with your dog and especially when it is just a puppy can have incurable consequences to its mental condition. It might end up feeling unworthy and can become unhappy for the rest of its life.

2. Do not make your dog overeat. To much food will hurt its physique and will make a major impact on its well being. As your dog gets fat from overeating it will lose its energy and joy and you'll end up with a fat, lazy and unhappy pet.

3. Food for people is not dog food. Do not feed your dog food from the dinner table. Ask your VET what is recommended for the specific breed as every breed might require different things for optimal nutritional intake.

4. To take your dog walking can be a fun experience and since your will need to do it every day (or even more times if you have a larger breed dog) you might as well enjoy it. And you probably already know that your dog is not the only one that needs exercise, right?

5. Your dog is a living being and it needs exercise often. So instead of just going out for a walk you might want to take it to the park to play. Play with sticks or balls and have your dog run off some of its energy. It will love you for it.

6. Every dog owner should sign up for dog training courses. Being able to control your dog and to have it follow commands is beneficial in so many ways that you can hardly believe it. It is also an important point to learn how to show your dog that you are in charge.

7. Love your dog. It might seem obvious but just like humans a dog needs to know that it is loved. You can express your love with words and physical gestures. Make it a daily habit to show your dog that you love it dearly.

8. Be fair at all times and be sure to also be respectful. Your dog is a living animal and even though it might not be able to communicate what it senses in a way that you can understand don't conclude that it doesn't sense things.

Need Help Training An Aggressive Dog?

By Carl Covason

Having a dog that is aggressive can be a major problem especially if you have children around. If you find your dog is getting aggressive there are a few different options available to you.

The first option presented to you would be to just say goodbye to your dog (not necessarily the best option). Many people love their dog's and treat them as part of the family and would never even consider this option but for others it is the way they go.

If you do decide that you want to get rid of your dog then make sure you find him a safe home. You should never let any dog go especially if they are aggressive. Dogs have had the wild breed out of them so the great outdoors is very unsafe for them out on their own.

An even better option would be to train your dog or have a dog trainer train him. There are a variety of different dog training classes you can take you dog to or you can train him in your own home.

One type of dog training is clicker training. If clicker dog training is done correctly you will see a major improvement in your dog's behavior. The beauty of clicker training your dog is that after a while of using the clicker you will have a dog that listens to your commands without the need of using the clicker or dog treats.

When using a clicker it is all about timing. If you mess this up it will be much harder to train your dog and will take much longer.

The moment that your dog follows your command you need to click and give him a treat. If you click to long after the desired action your dog will have no idea why you are being so generous with the dog treats.

Another thing to know about clicker training is that you do not want your dog to see the clicker in your hand. You can also do clicker training by clicking with your tongue.

Regardless of how you plan on training your dog you should always use positive training methods. Not only will negative training methods hurt your dog but you will also notice a decline in your dogs behavior over time.

Best Methods For Training Your Dog

By Tony Jallit

For most instances, a person will usually do what is the right way in their opinion to train a dog to be obedient rather than taking advice and suggestions from others. This does not imply that there are not other methods of dog training available. However using your own methods you get the same outcome 9 times out of ten.

You see, my dog Cobra had a major problem with barking when he saw people, chewing on non dog toys, snapping. He also had some other common dog behavior problems. His barking was probably the worst of them all. He would bark at anything that passed by the window people, other dogs, cats, squirrels, birds you name it! One of my friends said that I should get a shock collar for Cobra, but I didn't want to subject my dog to that kind of punishment. What's the point in have a dog if your going to treat him it like that.

Nobody wanted to come to my home any more because my dog Cobra was so rambunctious and impossible to handle. I found a program online that worked for Cobra, I had tried training books and was almost ready to enroll him in obedience school.

I've been really pleased with a wonderful book called "Secrets to Dog Training". The methods and the quality of the methods in the book were very impressive. Just like a professional training, I was training my dog using the latest techniques. It took me no time to learn the tricks of the trade.

My dog now obeys me both at home and in public. It will very easy for my to follow these techniques by using plenty of photos. You can also view some videos on the subject. Where other advise and guides are proved as failures this online software worked wonderfully. Basically if you are have any kind of behavioral problems with you dog this online guide most likely has the answer for you.

Ask yourself, what's causing these issues for your dog? Is this too aggressive? Misbehaving? The breed of dog or the specific problem your dog has doesn't matter. You don't need to spend all that money on a professional dog trainer because you will learn all of their secrets. Don't pay a trainer! These methods will help you train your dog yourself.

This software gives you all the information besides the dog and puppy training techniques, that also made me impressed. Their classes are aimed at improving your puppy's overall condition as well as his obedience. You and your dog will be fun when teaching the basic tricks like rolling over, crawling, shake hands, etc. You should know about the medical conditions specific to your breed and the requirements of a qualified vet. To make your dog healthier you can use plus homemade recipes.

No need to buy a bunch of separate books you get every thing dog related here. This review can not possibly give you all of the several benefits that are in the e-book but after checking out other books, I found this product book to be the best and I completely 100% recommend it. Get Rid Of Dog Fleas with Natural Flea Remedies

By Megan Smith

All natural flea remedies would not be needed if pet owners would just use some all natural flea control techniques. Fleas are a headache. The best way to deal with fleas is to prevent fleas. The best way to prevent fleas is to use natural flea control methods. People are always looking for natural healthy ways to treat fleas.

Flea prevention using all natural methods is cheap and easy. Some people use a citrus repellent which is clearly derived from the potent mosquito effects of citronella. To create a such a repellant for your pet, cut up a lemon and place in a pot. Cover the lemon pieces with boiling water and let them soak for 10 hours. After they have soaked, transfer the lemony liquid into a spritzer bottle. You now have dog friendly all natural flea repellent. Spray your dog or cat all over remembering to pay special attention to behind the ears, around the base of his tail and under your dogs "armpits". Be careful of your pet's eyes when spraying as citrus can sting.

I have heard of other dog owners using an aromatherapy repellant. Admittedly, these ingredients can be expensive and less easy to find but this repellant really does work. By using 10 ml. of sweet almond oil as your base combine 6 drops of cedar wood essence and 12 drops of lavender essence. Shake the mixture generously and rub a few drops over the skin of your dog, especially around dog's neck and base of his tail. Repeat this treatment as needed or every 2 days.

Lastly, a natural flea collar can be created by rubbing a few drops of eucalyptus oil, Tea Tree Oil, citronella, lavender or geranium essence on to your pet's ordinary rope or webbing collar or even his or her bandanna. Re-apply the oil or essence as needed or at least every week.

Another very simple and common sense suggestion is to reduce your dog's overall exposure to fleas. You can begin by reducing the dog fleas immediately outside of your home. One method to reduce fleas outside is to install a Purple Martin bird house. Purple Martins like to dine on dog fleas, thus controlling the outdoor flea population. A failure to deal with these fleas will result in your pet continually getting infested.

Fleas can be a serious dog health problem. The best flea remedy is to use an all natural flea control methods. Remember, fleas make your treasured pet very uncomfortable and they are no fun for the dog owner's family either. The best cure for anything is an ounce of prevention, and this goes double for flea remedies.

How to do Dog Potty Training

By Paul J James

Regardless of how cute your puppy is when you bring him home, resist the temptation to delay dog potty training until later. Even very young puppies can be potty trained successfully.

A Crate

A puppy crate is a very helpful tool for dog potty training. A crate gives your dog his own "space" that he won't want to soil particularly at night. Be sure he given plenty of opportunity and encouragement to go potty before he's crated.

Choose The Right Food

You may be tempted to buy cheap dog food, but you will most likely regret it in the end. Cheap dog foods are full of fillers. Since the fillers can't be digested and processed into fuel, they pass through your dog's digestive system causing gas and creating large amounts of stool. Higher quality dog foods do not have as much filler so your dog passes much smaller stools

A Standard Schedule

Establishing a schedule for your puppy from the beginning will go a long way toward potty training him. Feeding should be done at the same times every day followed by taking him outside to relieve himself about 15-20 minutes after he eats. He should also be given the opportunity to go outside after naps and immediately upon being removed from his crate in the morning.

Communicating

Establish words that your dog can learn to associate with relieving himself. Use that word consistently to avoid confusing him. It's also important to learn your dog's signals that he needs to go outside; restlessness, sniffing around (especially in places he may have had an accident at some point) or going to the door can all be signals that your dog needs to go.

Constant Reinforcement

When your puppy does well, praise him. Using the word he's come to associate with elimination, "good boy to go potty outside" will help him strengthen the connection between going potty and being praised.

Successful dog potty training requires patience and persistence but the pay off is well worth the effort. Well mannered dogs are a joy both to their owners and those around them.

What Ingredients Are Used in Commercial Dog Food

By Lazaro Del Sol

The Association Of American Feed Control Officials (AAFCO) regulate and set standards for the pet food industry. AAFCO runs tests on the ingredients used in the preparation of pet food to assure that they meet certain nutritional guidelines. These guidelines have a rather wide range of acceptability due to the number of different qualities of pet foods. Therefore, having the AAFCO stamp of approval on a dog food label does not necessarily mean the food is good for our dogs.

How then are we as consumers going to know what is the best dog food to serve our pets? Dog food labels provide us with much information. Some of it can be misleading. So if we want to feed our dogs with a nutritious meal, it is important for us to gain some knowledge in how to read and interpret what a label is really telling us.

Because of the constant exposure to the marketing tactics of pet food manufacturers, many of us have are loyal to a certain dog food brand or product name. We have been led to believe that this brand has high quality food products. The first rule to remember when reading a label is that if the product label mentions an ingredient such as "beef chow" for example, then that product must contain 95% of that ingredient by weight if the product is a dry product and 70% if it is a wet or canned product. If the label includes words such as "dinner" or "formula" then only 25% of that ingredient is required.

Pet food labels list their ingredients by weight. Ingredients weighing the most are listed first. Taking the above example into consideration, a "dinner" labeled product will only contain 1/4 of the mentioned product. So even though the ingredient is part of the labeled product name it is not necessarily the main ingredient. Corn or bone meal is more than likely the main ingredient. Both these ingredients can be found in cheap discounted or generic brands.

In many cases the main ingredient is not mentioned in the title. Instead we see such words as "flavored" as in "chicken flavored." There is no set required percentage for these items. We will also see the words like "Premium" or "Natural" on the labels. Premium dog food is a worthwhile product to checkout. Most premium products do follow the AAFCO standards for a nutritionally balanced dog food product. "Natural" just means that there are no artificial ingredients such as colors, preservatives and flavors in the product.

A sure fire way to find the best dog food products when reading the list of ingredients is to find the first fat ingredient such as "chicken fat." All the ingredients before the fat source are the main part of that food product. The fewer the ingredients the better. All the other items on the list are used for flavoring or preserving the product. By finding where the fat source is listed we can then find ingredients that maybe harmful to our dogs such as corn gluten.

If we are feeding our dogs a commercial dog food brand, then the most important thing that we can do as a dog owner is to learn to read dog food labels. When reading through the list of ingredients if we come across an item that doesn't sound like something we would like to eat, then we should think twice about feeding it to our dogs. Let us take a little extra time to learn what we are really feeding our dogs.

What To Know About Rare Mink Ragdoll Kittens

By Julie Jones

Many people want to own a cat that will cuddle around their feet and warm their laps, a real forever companion. When choosing any pet, it's best to do some research first. Looking into cat breeds and their characteristics, one can easily see why one of the most sought after pets is the rare mink Ragdoll kittens.

Ragdoll cats were created and defined as a breed in the sixties by Ann Baker. She took several different cat breeds, including the Persian, Burmese and Birman or 'Sacred' cats and combined them for their best traits. What she ended up with was the precursor to the modern day ragdoll. The ragdoll has many characteristics that set it apart from similar breeds. And any kitten in a ragdoll breed may be one of the rare mink ragdoll kittens.

Ragdoll cats come in a few different varieties. There are solid or pointed breeds called traditional. And there are non-traditional breeds such as non-pointed or mink ragdolls. The way to tell one of the rare mink ragdoll kittens from the rest of a litter is the colour. Ragdolls are normally born white and mature into their colours or patterns. Mink kittens have their colour at birth.

Traditional ragdoll patterns can be very diverse. Colour point ragdolls will have no white on them whatsoever. The 'point' refers to points of their features like ears and nose, paws and tail, that will show the colour that the cat is, while the rest of the body is a lighter shade. Mitted cats will have white paws and boots with the rest of their legs being black. They will also have a white chin and 'bib' or front chest area. Bi-colour patterned kittens, whether rare mink ragdoll kittens or pure traditional ragdoll, will have an inverted V on their faces with white legs, chins and bibs.

Kittens in the ragdoll family are all born with one of the traditional colours. They can be chocolate or seal point but they can also have other more interesting colours. Ragdolls both traditional and rare can be 'blue' which means they are a shade of grey, or lilac which is a pale shade of rose-beige. Cream colours are common as well with rare mink ragdoll kittens, and are a light orangey beige. A warmer or hotter colour of cream is called 'flame'.

The truly significant thing that sets rare mink ragdoll kittens out from other ragdoll types and breeds are the eyes. Traditional ragdoll kittens will have blue eyes, sometimes looking grey or dark grey. Mink kittens will have aqua eyes, varying shades of blue-green or green-blue. Solid ragdoll kittens can have green, copper, blue, blue green or even mismatched eyes.

Ragdoll cats are called 'ragdoll' for apparently two reasons. One is their colouring, which is reminiscent of the ragdolls of old that little girls cuddled up to. Another reason is their demeanor. Ragdolls, whether they are the rare mink ragdoll kittens or the solids or smokes or traditional, are all incredibly loveable cats. They are very social and don't like to be left alone when young. These are very docile cats that also happen to be very floppy.

It is always a good idea to research any breed of the type of pet you are looking at getting. Dogs or cats, puppies or kittens, it's important to make a choice that suits your personality and style. The rare mink ragdoll kittens are ideal for many calmer types of people, while say, a Siamese litter might suit someone else with more energy. Ragdolls are increasing in popularity and its easy to see why.
