Your Dog's Misaligned Teeth

If your dog's teeth do not align right, its called malocclusion, which mean the fit of the bite is not right. This condition usually starts as the puppies teeth start coming in. As the dog grows to adulthood, the condition can get better or worsen.

By the time a puppy is about 6 months old he should have about 28 teeth. Those teeth are sharp and pointy so make sure your small children are careful while playing with a puppy. By the time the puppy reaches adulthood, he should have 42 teeth.

Ordinary tribulations that can occur from malocclusion are mouth injuries, wear on the teeth and fractures in the mouth. Depending on the severity of the malocclusion, its best if you have a vet check it out to recommend if you need medical intervention. Make sure that your dog is not experiencing difficulty eating due to their malocclusion.

The most common malocclusions are overbite or underbite. This occurs when the mouth is closed and the teeth do not meet creating a gap. Many breeds have this problem naturally and do not have any issues; however, the flat face family of dogs will not have the scissor bite.

The scissor bite is not something that you will find in all dogs. Boxers, Shih Tzus and Lhasa Apsos are some of the most common of the flat nose breed. Something you need to know when you are purchasing a purebred dog from this family.

It is not uncommon for puppies to be born with gaps in their teeth. These gaps will usually correct themselves as the puppy gets older and his adult teeth come in. If the problem does not correct by around the 10-month mark, it likely will not correct itself.

Your dog's overbite may worsen as the permanent teeth come in because they are larger and can damage the soft parts of the mouth. Teeth extractions are sometimes necessary. Just check with your vet if you are concerned or notice that the dog is not eating.

Severe cases might require intervention as we have said. Typically these conditions do not ever affect the dogs ability to eat and will not require any medical procedure. As of late though, people are opting for doggy braces to correct their dog's alignment issues. What is next, contact lens?

I do feel we owe it to our pets to make their life comfortable. Be consistent with their checkups and vaccinations to extend the life of your dog. After all, they are your family too.

People are logical and intelligent creatures (most of us anyway). We can correctly assume the outcome of any given situation through reasoning skills and basic common sense. Dogs on the other hand, are lovable but not as smart. They understand only through simple reactions and a consistent repetition of unchanging commands. For instance, we understand that 'Come!', 'Let's go!', or 'Come here!' mean the same thing. But with dogs, all three phrases are as different as different can be. He might go to you after the millionth time of calling him but that doesn't mean he understands what you're trying to say.

Do not forget to bring him up properly with socialization. It is an often overlooked but very important aspect of dog training. Establishing social skills is best during the first three months of the puppy's life. However, adult dogs needs and would benefit from regular interaction with people and other animals. Make socialization an integral part of his life by introducing your pet to vaccinated dogs, different kinds of people and crowded places whenever you can.

Training a pet can sometimes be frustrating but you do it because you love them. These dog training tips will successfully help your dog be the best he can be in the world he lives in. Is it easy? Not always, but it is definitely worth it.

Being an avid aquarist can be very satisfying or stressful, depending on the knowledge you have in fish. Knowledge can be very helpful, but not always solve the problem. A book may tell you that a certain type of fish can go with this type of fish, but this is not always the case. First hand experience is the best way to get the hang of being an aquarium hobbies. Fish can act differently for a number of reasons, and even for some unexplainable reasons.

There are many ways that a fish can be un-cooperative. Fish can attack other fish. They can constantly bug other fish and scare them. They can be very hyper and be too fast for the other fish. They can dig a lot and knock over plants. Identifying which fish does what is the first step to fixing the problem.

The most common problem when fish are causing problems is because of they do not like the other fish. This can be solved very easily, and is best solved as soon as the problem is found. Usually the problem is that one fish does not like another type of fish.

Before you rid of the fish, you can test out a few things to make sure that problem is inevitable. First test the temperature, condition, surroundings, age and if the fish may be pregnant. The temperature can affect the fish if it is not hot or cold enough. The water could be to hard or soft make sure your fish is fine with living with the type of water in your tank. Some fish act up if the tank does not have enough hiding places, make sure the habitat is fit for the fish. If the fish is old or pregnant then it may be acting odd also.

If you have checked everything that you possibly can then it is time to take action. First, try removing the fish and all of its kind from the tank and put them in another tank alone. This should usually solve the problem within your main tank. If you find that the fish are still acting up, that you should see if they might be sick or breeding. Give the fish a week or so in the new tank if they are still acting up, the water or temperature may be the problem. Next, experiment with the decorations in the tank. Finally, if you still are pursuing the problem then the fish might have to be given to a different home.

What You Need To Know About Flying With Pets

It use to be the case that pets were only allowed to travel on airplanes if they were in secured, sometimes windowless cages stored beneath the plane with the luggage. Over the years though the extreme changes in cabin pressure and temperature have made airlines (as well as pet owners) re-think how they handle pets during long flights. For some airlines that meant insulating the storage area beneath the plane to properly shield extreme cases of cold or heat due to traveling at 30,000 feet, others that meant training both flight attendant as well as baggage crews on how to handle both well-behaved and ill-behaved pets. Most of the major airlines won't even let you fly with animals if its during the more hotter months in the summer for fear that the animal may be aversely affected by it.

If your travel companion is a small pet then it's much easier to take them with you in a soft dog carrier. The majority of airlines will allow passengers to bring a small dog, cat or other pet into the passenger cabin as long as it is quiet, odorless and and above all restrained in their carrier for the duration of the flight. While you might cringe at the thought of keeping them in their dog carrier for a long flight, it is worlds better than the alternative they would have faced traveling with your toothbrush and shoes downstairs. Now in order for you and your pet to qualify for passage on an airline the pet and carrier must have a combined weight of no more than 40 pounds and must also fit underneath the seat in front of you. Because a lot of the airlines have a limit to the number of pets that they'll allow in the cabin for any given flight, if you'd like to take your four-legged friend with you on the plane make sure to notify the airline as soon as possible so that you can be guaranteed one of those slots.

Every airline tends to have different policies towards people traveling with their pets which include both pets traveling in pet carriers as well as larger dogs who have to travel in kennels beneath the plane. To be on the safe side, always contact your airline ahead of time to learn what their policies and conditions are so that you won't run the risk of endangering your pet. Airline personnel can also help you find the best flight time available to keep any changes in temperature to a minimal. For instance flights in the early morning or late evening are the best during the summer seasons.

Regardless of how your pet will travel, there are precautions owners need to take to be sure traveling is safe and healthy for the animal. AAHA suggests, and major airlines require, that traveling pets be examined by a veterinarian no more than 10 days before to the date of departure. You will also be required to provide the necessary rabies vaccination certifications when you check in to the airport prior to boarding. Because their feeding schedule might be affected ask your veterinarian for tips on how to keep your pet fed and happy. The age and size of the pet, time and distance of the flight and regular dietary routine all will play a part in your pet's well-being. There is also a Federal Regulations that states that dogs and cats must be at least eight weeks old and weaned at least five days before flying. If you're meeting your pet at the airport on a different flight, you will need to be there when it lands. No late-pickups!

As for what type of carrying case or crate you should secure them in for traveling on a plane that all will be determined by the size and breed of your pet. You can't go wrong with any of the sturdy pet carrier most commonly found at any pet store but just make sure that they have all-hard sides and at least two ventilation ducts on opposite sides of each other. If you have a small pet then you should look into getting a soft leather dog carrier to keep your four-legged friend happy and content for the duration of the flight. Whether it's a dog kennel or pet carrier, it's important that you make sure it has a water resistant floor as well as soft objects all over the place to help pad any turbulence. All kennels should have the proper large signs attached to them that read "Live Animal" complete with a copy of your travel itinerary, contact info and way to reach you while on your trip.

Just always keep in mind that you know your pet better than anyone so it will be up to you as to whether or not your pet is right for air-travel. Some dogs that are perfectly healthy in any other situation end up becoming traumatized due to the environmental changes that takes place during flight from the varying degree switches in temperature to the changes in cabin pressure.

When the puppy is not panicking with being enclosed in the crate, leave the room for several minutes at a time. With his favorite toys and treats inside with him, he should be feeling comfortable and able to keep himself amused even without you being there constantly. You can leave him inside his crate but never for more than four hours at a time. Puppies have not fully mastered their bowel movements and having to eliminate in his space will upset him.

These are few puppy training tips that when followed, will do so much to increase your leisure time significantly. Crate training aids potty and sleeping habits without much hard work. Sounds good right? You also have the freedom to take longer trips and vacations without undue stress of worrying about your puppy. For times you need space you can leave him be. The dog will be happy in his own world and you in yours. When you are successful in crate training a puppy-- your former lifestyle will be as forgotten as a buried bone.
