What Are The Causes Of Dog Scratching?

By Moses Wright

Dog scratching is a common reason for veterinary visits. There are numerous causes of dog scratching.

Fleas are one of the most noticeable causes of dog scratching. The dog owner may be alerted to the presence of fleas by seeing the fleas or flea dirt on the dog or flea bites on people in the household.

A severe flea infestation can cause hair loss and sores on the dog's skin due to scratching. Dogs may be allergic to flea saliva that can make these symptoms significantly worse.

In addition to flea saliva allergies, other types of dog allergies can cause dog scratching. Dogs can develop allergies to dog food, medication, vaccinations, or substances in their environments.

The cause of a dog scratching its ears is often ear mites. A dog with ear mites may also shake its head.

Mange is a parasitic infection from mites that can cause intense itchiness. Tick bites and infestations of hookworms or lice can be causes of dog scratching.

Hot spots are a common cause of dog itchiness. Hot spots are often triggered by an allergic reaction, infection, or poor grooming. In addition to itchiness, hot spots can cause hair loss and severe skin irritation.

Reactions to staph and staph infections of hair follicles can cause dog scratching. A skin disease called sebaceous adenitis causes damage to the sebaceous glands. Sebaceous adenitis can cause itchiness as well as hair loss.

Some less common causes of itchiness in dogs includes pelodera dermatitis and calcinosis cutis. Pelodera dermatitis is an infection of larvae from a typically non-parasitic worm. Calcinosis cutis, often due to Cushing's disease, causes mineralization of the skin which can cause intense itchiness.

Cancer is one of the possible causes of dog scratching. Lymphoma and epitheliotropic lymphoma can cause itchiness in dogs.

As in humans, mosquito bites and insect stings can cause itchiness. Bee and wasp stings can cause hives and ulcers. Itchiness is an uncomfortable symptom of many veterinary conditions. Dogs that are scratching frequently should be examined by a veterinarian for proper diagnosis and treatment.

GPS Pet Locators - Peace Of Mind Fast

By Adam Webster

When the kids brought that darn little puppy home in a box you swore that you would not get attached to her. Now she seems almost as much a part of the family as they are. You just went to get her out of her kennel and now she is gone. If only you had bought that GPS pet locator you saw at the pet store last time you were there.

Another story of the usefulness of this device is found in with a pet who spends most of her day in the house with you. One day as you answer the door to let in a guest your precious pet runs out the door and disappears. Before you can call her back into the house, she is gone.

If only you had a GPS locator on that pets collar like the one in your car. Then you could know immediately where the pet is at.

GPS units can come with their own collar or attach to the pets collar. Never take the unit off of the pet except when you are sure that there is no chance of the pets escape. Units with their own collar work best for medium to large dogs while the units that attach to a pets own collar work well with all size dogs.

There are two types of GPS protection available for your pet. With the first, you set a boundary where your pet is allowed to roam. If the pet crosses that boundary, then you are sent an alert by phone and e-mail that your pet has crossed. You can track the pet with a mobile phone or online.

The second unit works differently in that a boundary is not set, Instead you send an alert if the pet is gone and the location of the GPS unit is returned to you.

You may find a few limitations to these units. There are some terrains where the units do not work well. Additionally, you must make sure that the collar fits your dog so that it does not slip off.

For most of the areas in the country and most animals using their own collars, the GPS units work great.

Some of these units even have a button that can be pressed by a stranger who finds your pet. A signal is sent to the service including the location of the pet and that location is relayed to you.

When a pet is missing people offer large rewards for that pets return. Instead, you could take defensive action and provide your pet with a GPS pet locator for about one hundred dollars plus a small monthly service charge.

Today we not only have to worry about a pet getting out, we are also plagued with pet thieves. Believe it or not, there are people that will steal your pet in order to sell it to someone else. The GPS pet locator makes it much easier to recover that stolen pet.

You want that pet to have the best. Why not give him or her a GPS pet locator. When you find the dog, it tail will wag hello to you.

Dogs' Heart Worm, Fleas and other Parasites

By Owen Jones

You have to destroy heart worm, fleas and other parasites in dogs whenever they raise their ugly heads by using the appropriate treatment against them. Many medications are available to defend dogs from heart worms, fleas and other parasites such as hook worms, whip worms, round worms, lice, ticks etc.

Of the heart worms, fleas and other parasites, fleas can produce a hyper sensitive reaction in the affected dog. Animals infested with fleas scratch their skin very vigorously. Frequently the scratching is so severe that the skin becomes super-sensitive and dermatitis is the result in the scratched areas.

The result of a serious flea infestation is often that your dog can not lie down for long or sleep properly because of the constant flea bites. Therefore, your dog looks as if has some serious skin issues. If the the animal is not properly attended to for these flea bites, there could be a secondary bacterial attack in these areas and there may even be a bad smell emanating from the affected area of your dog's skin.

You have to observe your dog closely in order prevent a serious infestation of fleas. However, it is essential to prevent such a serious infestation as they are extremely upsetting to your dog. Similarly, the skin of the animal has to be inspected often for the presence of ticks and lice. In order to do this properly, you must inspect the dog's skin by separating the dog's hairs. The easiest way to do this is by slowly back-combing or ruffling the animal's hair.

Usually, if your dog is anaemic, and it is not he result of being plagued by too many fleas, you have to rule out hookworm. Symptoms of hookworm are usually anaemia, loose stools and a pot belly. The dog's owner may notice these symptoms by themselves, however, speaking honestly, the dog ought to have a routine health check at the vet's, which involves both faecal and hematological examinations.

There are many products available commercially, some of which are helpful for dealing with all these conditions by a single dose. Drugs like ivermectin are highly effective and are obtainable in injection, oral and solution forms. The latter should be applied directly on the dog's skin. These drugs can induce the prevention of the above conditions too.

Therefore, the best policy to adopt is to keep a keen watch on your dog. This could very easily be carried out at bath time and when you are brushing him. You can use an anti-flea and anti-tick shampoo, which will keep these nuisances at bay, if used regularly. Couple this with regular grooming with a lice comb and the use of a flea collar should keep your pet flea, lice, and tick free.

Celebrities Who Spend Their Lives With Felines.

By Robert Jizawa

Cats have been objects of interest to people around the world for a long time. They were first worshipped and domesticated in Egypt before they were bred and exported overseas, where they became trustworthy companions and widely admired.

Cats have been a source of inspiration for writers and artists--one has only to look at the Broadway musical "Cats" for evidence of this.

Tolstoy even told the tale of a cat who was critical to his story "Master and Margarita"; Sir Winston Churchill firmly believed that cats were important companions and always had his pal Jock in the room when meals were to commence.

Sir Isaac Newton created the cat door, or cat flap, so that his feline friends could come and go as they wished without letting too much light into his laboratory. Even though this device was invented in the 17th century, it is still in demand as the preferred way to allow a cat to have his freedom and access to the house at the same time.

Nikola Tesla, a prodigious inventor was first struck with question "What is electricity?" in early childhood while petting his cat Macak. Sparks produced by the repetitive contact of his palm with the cat's fur pushed Tesla to later make phenomenal discoveries in the field of electrical and mechanical engineering!

Cat's gracious movements, the mesmerizing eyes and the hypnotizing purr are appealing to everyone. Today, there are many clubs of " Cat lovers" , cat clothing lines and elite grooming salons. People appreciate pets such as cats so much, that sometimes they go on shopping sprees just to please them and purchase items like the frontline plus for cats.

However cats are not only pleasant to the eye they also have certain therapeutic virtues. According to a study published in 2002 by professors Allen K, Blascovich J, Mendes WB, of the State University of New York , contact with cats can help lower high blood pressure. In their article entitled "Cardiovascular reactivity and the presence of pets, friends, and spouses: the truth about cats and dogs", they provide evidence on the way cats help moderate reaction to stress and improve one's health.

Cats are extremely popular in North America because they are indoor animals that are low in maintenance. The American Veterinary Medical Association in 2007 stated that in the United States there are over 82 million felines being kept as pets. A cat that is an indoor cat only will have a significantly longer lifespan when compared with a cat who is allowed outdoors. Indoor cats will not be hit by a car, exposed to cat fights, and an indoor cat simply will not be exposed to the various diseases and bacteria that are endemic in the outdoor cat population. Whether or not you decide to let your cat out or keep your friend indoors at all times will depend upon your personal circumstances and is ultimately your decision. You must love and care for your cat. If you take someone in, you are responsible for them. Do not let them down.

Sigmund Freud once said, "Time spent with cats is never wasted.

Can Fencing Your Dog Can Protect Him From Parasites?

By Moses Wright

Fencing your dog can protect him from parasites. Fencing your dog can prevent many dangers including car accidents and eating toxic substances in garbage. Though a fence can help keep a dog safe, fencing will not protect the dog from all parasites.

A dog that is not fenced may be at greater risk for hookworms if the dog goes to an area where a dog with hookworms has defecated. The hookworms could be present in the feces or ground around the feces. Hookworms can burrow through the skin of a dog to infect the dog.

If a dog comes in contact with feces contaminated with threadworms, the threadworms can burrow through the skin. Infected dogs and other carnivores can pass threadworms through their feces. A dog fence protects the dog from being near feces from infected dogs, cats, or wildlife.

Gnathostoma is a potentially dangerous parasite that can infect a dog that eats an animal infected with gnathostoma. The gnathostoma burrows through the dog's stomach, travels around the dog's body causing damage before returning to the stomach. Since a dog fence keeps the dog isolated from most other animals, this is another parasitic infection reduced by fencing.

Like the gnathostoma, the spirocerca lupi is acquired by eating an infected animal. Spiocerca lupi lives in the dog's stomach after being ingested. Spirocerca lupi can cause damage to blood vessels and cancer of the esophagus.

When a dog is outside, the dog is at risk for certain parasites whether the dog is fenced or not. Mosquitoes obviously cannot be stopped by fences, but a mosquito bite is the common cause for heartworms.

Though fleas and ticks may live in a fenced area, the risk of fleas and ticks can be greatly reduced by a fence which keeps the wildlife and other dogs out that may carry ticks and fleas. Some dog owners also spray outdoor areas for ticks and fleas which can further reduce the risk of ticks and fleas especially if there is a fence to keep out animals.

Another parasite that cannot be prevented by a dog's fence is cuterebra. The cuterebra eggs may be found on rocks or in soil and may be ingested during grooming if they get on the dog's fur. The skin of the dog may be penetrated by cuterebra larvae.

How To Get Rid Of Fleas

By Ryan Williams

Pet owners everywhere are at one time or another faced with the issue of how to get rid of fleas! When your pet gets infested with fleas it can be a terribly frustrating experience for both the owner and pet. Our local pet food store sells an assortment of flea collars, flea powders and flea shampoo including Frontline for fleas. Even though the staff are helpful, it is pretty hard to know which product to use and almost impossible to know all of the active ingredients of these dog flea products. There can be some hazardous side-effects of those well known but potentially highly harmful dog flea products. The chemicals used in some of the household name products and major national popular brands on the market may be poisoning our pets and marginalizing our own family?s health at the same time. So the question is, how to get rid of fleas safely?

As people become more aware of issues pertaining to their health, dog owners are seeking all-natural alternatives to the question of how to get rid of fleas. Some of the more common and popular all-natural dog flea remedies are sketched out below:

1. Household salt solution. Sprinkle table salt all over your house. Pay particular attention to where Fido takes his nap. Let the salt sit for at least one week and then look at the results. Fleas don?t seem to like salt. Your dog will lie down on the rugs, etc and the salt will also get on to his fur?fleas don?t like this. A few days later the fleas are gone.

2. Talcum powder to treat dog fleas. Cover your dog or cat with baby powder and this will smother the fleas. This remedy is often recommended for puppies or kittens who are too young to be treated with any flea chemical. You can also use baking soda.

3. Olive oil remedy. For the fleas on adult dogs, you could try an olive oil bath. Start from the dogs head and work your way back so the fleas don't move to the face where it's really tough to pluck them off. Evidence suggests that the fleas just drown in it and fall out. Then just shampoo the dog fleas down the drain.

4. Some people think garlic is the best all-natural dog fleas remedy. Use freshly diced garlic. You can put a dab of oil into it in order to make it smoother plus the oil will make for a nice shiny coat. Some people use a garlic pill supplement while others use freshly chopped garlic and mix it into the food. The fleas don?t like the scent emitted by the dog after ingesting garlic.

There seem to be many all-natural alternatives to treating dog fleas. Some are bound to work better than others. These treatments will likely work best for a small infestation. For a really major case of fleas you might want to try a stronger dog flea remedy available at the pet store or vet?s office. In figuring out how to get rid of fleas its best to do some homework. However, with all matters pertaining to the health of your dog, please check with your vet about potential bad side effects.

Cat Food And It's Dangerous Ingredients

By Virginina Sutherland

As all cat lovers, we want go feed our feline bosses a healthy, species appropriate diet. But...finding a good food for your kitty may take a bit of detective work. Discounting advertising slogans such as "Wholesome" and "Recommended by veterinarians" along with the deceptive, yet legal, labels that allow "meat" to be the number 1 ingredient even though it is far down the list.

There are many ingredients found in cat food that do not belong there. They have no value to your cat, instead they can be downright detrimental.

The multibillion pet food companies spend both time and effort making people believe that grains are healthy and wholesome in order to sell their food. The truth is that grains are implicated with a long range of chronic, painful and expensive health problems.

Corn, which can be found in most pet food, is a really bad ingredient. It is highly allergy producing, it irritates the intestines, and possibly the most detrimental problem is that corn has a high glycemic index.

I high glycemic index means that after your cat eats food containing corn, her blood sugar levels will raise. Cats do not have the necessary enzymes and hormones deal with an absolute onslaught of sugar in the blood. Cats are designed to get their energy from protein, not from carbohydrates.

Commercial kibble containing corn has 30-60% carbohydrates. A cat in the wild, eating what nature intended for them to eat, will eat food containing 3-5% carbohydrates.

After eating a meal of kibble your cat's blood sugar level will spike because the body is not equipped to handle all those carbs.

The elevation in blood sugar is taxing for vital organs such as kidneys and liver. It taxes and exhausts the endocrine system. After time, the pancreas is unable to keep up and feline diabetes is a not uncommon end result.

Corn also helps making your cat obese. Cats do not register full after eating carbs. They register full after eating protein. A cat eating a food with high grain content will have to eat a lot more in order to consume enough protein to register full.

Switching your cat to a grain-less food frequently reverses diabetes, even if insulin has been given for some time. (A switch should be done ONLY with the cooperation of your vet, while monitoring blood glucose levels in order to prevent your cat's blood sugar to go too low which can be deadly.)

Start looking today for a brand of food that contains no corn, no wheat and no soy. Your furry friend will thank you.

Signs And Symptoms Of Infectious Canine Hepatitis

By Moses Wright

Infectious canine hepatitis is a dog disease that is contagious and can also infect wildlife carnivores like bears, coyotes, and foxes. A vaccination for infectious canine hepatitis can prevent this disease. Infectious canine hepatitis most commonly affects puppies under one year of age.

A puppy should not be vaccinated for infectious canine hepatitis until the puppy is at least nine weeks old. Puppies may be most susceptible to infectious canine hepatitis, but dogs of any age that have not been vaccinated are at risk for contracting this viral infection.

The virus that causes infectious canine hepatitis is spread through contact with an infected dog or contaminated body fluids such as nasal discharge, saliva, and urine. Items such as food dishes and cages can also become contaminated.

The first symptoms of infectious canine hepatitis are typically a fever, sore throat, and coughing. Then, the disease may begin to affect the kidneys, liver, and eyes. One of the most common symptoms of infectious canine hepatitis is a low white blood cell count.

The cornea may turn bluish or cloudy. The dog's eyes may become sensitive to light. The dog may develop a loss of appetite, seizures, vomiting, abdominal pain, and diarrhea.

Infectious canine hepatitis can cause bleeding problems. The dog may have nosebleeds or bleeding gums. Some dogs with this disease develop swelling of the head, neck, and trunk and hematomas which are collections of blood under the skin.

Typical veterinary care for dogs infected with infectious canine hepatitis includes an antibiotics and intravenous fluids as supportive care. There is no medication to specifically treat infectious canine hepatitis. Dogs may need blood transfusions as part of treatment for severe cases.

Infectious canine hepatitis is a potentially fatal dog disease. Death may occur as quickly as two hours after the onset of symptoms. Very young dogs are most likely to die from infectious canine hepatitis.

A dog can continue to spread this dog disease in its urine for up to nine months even if the dog has been treated and has recovered. Humans cannot contract this dog disease. Hepatitis that affects humans is a different disease.

What Is A Munchkin Cat?

By Moses Wright

Munchkin cats are best known for their incredibly short legs. This cat breed was developed from a natural genetic mutation. The Munchkin cat breed is one of the newest cat breeds.

The beginning of the Munchkin cat breed was the discovery of the female short-legged cat named Blackberry in 1983. The existence of short-legged cats have been documented as early as the 1940s, but the munchkin cat breeds not begin with those cats.

The Munchkin cats have been accepted as a championship breed in The International Cat Association (TICA), they have not yet been accepted into the Cat Fanciers? Association (CFA). Some people say that the popularity of Munchkin cats is increasing which could assist in their acceptance by the Cat Fanciers? Association.

Munchkin cats are described as playful and people-oriented. A Munchkin cat seems to enjoy being handled more than many cat breeds.

The Munchkin cats have eyes that are spaced widely apart and walnut-shaped. The color of the cat's coat is not related to the eye color of Munchkin cats like it is for most cat breeds. There are no restrictions on eye color by the breed standard.

A Munchkin cat has ears with slightly rounded tips. The medium-boned Munchkin cats should have muscular bodies. The shortness of the legs does not seem to impede the cat's ability to be active.

Some people are against the breeding of Munchkin cats and consider the short legs as a deformity that is not advantageous. Munchkin cat breeders defend the soundness of the breed by touting the cat breeds general health and lack of susceptibility to diseases.

The coats of Munchkin cats can be longhair or shorthair. Dense and plush, shorthair coats are medium to short in length. Solid colored shorthair coats may be less dense than other color patterns. The long-haired coats are semi-long and silky.

People who are knowledgeable about pets but not specifically about Munchkin cats may be concerned that Munchkin cats may suffer from the same spinal problems that corgi and Dachshund dogs are prone to. This is not the case since cat spines do not have the same susceptibility to spinal problems due to short stature.

Choosing the Right Aquarium Tank

By Leonard Standeley

There are many things to consider when selecting an aquarium tank. One of them is the size of the aquarium. To determine the ideal size for you, you have to know the kind of fish that you are putting in the aquarium and exactly how many of them. Also, try to find out how big your fish can grow. If you buy a fish without finding out its maximum growth size, you may someday find your aquarium tank too small or too crowded. Remember to choose the aquarium that will be big enough for all the fish at maximum growth size.

Some fish require larger tanks. To determine the proper tank size, follow this simple rule of thumb: for every fish that grows to less than 4 inches, you need one gallon of water for every inch of fish. For bigger fish like the cichlid, you will need at least 55 gallons of water and for the angelfish, 29 or more gallons of water. The bigger the tank, the bigger the capacity to house more fish. The more water in the tank, the more oxygen there will be for your fish.

You can find aquarium tanks in various shapes and sizes. There are rectangular, round, bow-front, hexagonal and many others. They may be as small as two and a half gallons or as big as several hundred gallons. A small tank is recommended for a first aquarium because of the low maintenance involved. For greater convenience, check out a prepackaged kit containing everything you need as a beginner. This kit may include light, filter and a heater.

Aquariums are made of either glass or acrylic. Glass aquariums are heavier and more readily available in aquarium stores. They are also less expensive and less easily scratched. Acrylic aquariums, on the other hand, are lighter, stronger and more flexible, allowing for more varied shapes and sizes. They are known also, to insulate better than glass. Acrylic aquariums, however, are more expensive than the traditional glass aquarium.

A filled aquarium will weigh about 10 pounds for every gallon of water. So a large aquarium will really be very heavy. Bear this in mind when choosing your stand. You do not want to put it on anything that might collapse under the heavy weight. There are specialized aquarium stands built in metal or wood that could provide the necessary support for your aquarium. Some even have compartments for your aquarium supplies. Be sure also that your aquarium comes with a lid or a 'hood' and that it's the right size for your tank.

Once you purchase your aquarium tank, place it in your bathtub or backyard and fill it with water. Add your heater, filter, and any other equipment, and plug these items in. Then, wait overnight, to test both the aquarium tank and the equipment. You don't want to add fish immediately only to find out that the tank leaks or your heater does not work. Selecting the proper aquarium tank size and type, and making sure that it is ready for fish before adding them, can ensure that your fish will live a long and happy life in your aquarium.

Symptoms and Care for Canine Dental Disease

By Heather Fox

Dental disease is one of the most common ailments among dogs. Astonishingly, 85% of dogs over the age of three will have some form of dental disease via tartar or gingivitis. The most common symptoms owners report include:

Bad Smelling Breath or Halitosis

Bleeding of the Gums

Blood left behind on chew toys

As gingivitis and dental disease become more severe, other symptoms may appear. These include:

Denying to Eat

Drooling

Difficulty in chewing or picking up hard foods

Discomfort when opening mouth

Enlargement of lymph nodes underneath the jaw

Swelling on the face underneath the eye

Bacteria from advanced dental disease can spread to other organs of the body such as the heart, kidneys and brain causing severe infection.

The Veterinary Visit " Diagnosis and Treatment of Dental Disease

Generally, a physical examination performed by your veterinarian can determine if your dog has dental disease. All that is needed is a thorough view of the inside of the mouth and teeth. However, tartar below the gum line cannot be seen by the naked eye. For this, your veterinarian will require X-rays. This procedure will require your dog to undergo general anesthesia. This is typically performed during the treatment process as both require anesthetic.

The most effective way to treat tartar accumulation and gingivitis is with a professional veterinary cleaning. This procedure is usually a one day, outpatient procedure, but does require general anesthetic.

While under sedation, a dog's teeth are cleaned and polished both above and below the gum line much like a human dentist does for people.

If a dog has severe infection or abscesses on or around any of its teeth, the veterinarian will perform x-rays to determine if the tooth can or cannot be saved. This is done while the dog is sedated. If teeth must be pulled, don't worry, most dogs do very well after teeth have been removed. Often times they are still able to eat solid food.

There are some owners who choose not to have their dogs teeth removed. Instead, they prefer to visit a veterinary dental specialist to salvage a broken or infected tooth.

Preventing Dog Dental Disease

The best way to prevent tartar accumulation and gingivitis is with daily brushing. Use special toothpaste made only for dogs along with a soft toothbrush when brushing your dogs teeth. Do not use human toothpaste as it was not meant to be swallowed and foams too much. The video below contains a detailed description of how to brush your dogs teeth.

Crate Training Is The Best Method For House Training Puppies

By Alicia Ainsley Summers

Crate training is the quickest way to get the job done when you are house training puppies. The reason why crate training puppies works is because it's very easy to get a grip on the eating and toilet schedule for your dog, and his opportunities for accidents are greatly reduced.

Some people have a hard time with the concept of crate training, and your puppy may whine a little bit being kept in the crate, especially if he is used to running free. However, dogs like having a den, and this creates a safe space for your puppy that he knows is his "home". A puppy is very resistant to messing up his own space, and will hold off on relieving himself until he can get to another location-this is why crate training works.

The crate needs to be large enough so your puppy can comfortably walk around in a circle and then lie down. As he gets older, upgrade to a larger crate if necessary. Crate training puppies works basically because dogs want to avoid lying in their urine so they hold off on using the toilet when in the crate for as long as possible.

Throughout the day, keep track of the times each day your puppy drinks, eats and goes to the bathroom. This way you can put together a schedule for toilet breaks around the times of day your dog might need to go. Typically, toilet times tend to happen first thing in the morning, after playtime, 30 minutes after eating, and before bedtime. For younger puppies a few nighttime time trips may also be needed.

When you take your puppy out of the crate in the morning, take him right to his toilet area. Simply carry him straight there and set him down in the toilet area if he tends to get distracted or run off. You should just stand there for 10-15 or so minutes, simply watching and waiting. If he actually goes to the bathroom, immediately give your puppy lots of verbal praise and affection, and you can also give a treat. If he doesn't go, then take him back to his crate, and in about 20 minutes or so, try again. Just repeat this pattern until successful, and once your puppy does go, reward the good behavior with playtime. You want to teach your dog that he needs to take care of business first, then he gets playtime. This sets up good habits.

Crate training puppies can take a lot of time and effort in the initial stages of house training puppies. However, if you do it properly you will be results soon. Your puppy will need frequent breaks for stretching and playing, but for the most part stays in the crate during the day during the training process.

Whenever your dog is out of his crate, keep your eyes on him at all times. If you catch him about to have an accident on the carpet, shout No! and whisk him up and take him immediately out to the right area. This can be messy and chaotic, but it is really the only chance you have to help him understand where to go.

When you are house training puppies, understand that accidents will happen. Clean it up quietly and quickly without letting your dog watch you. Use urine odor remover type cleaning products so your dog will not sniff out that area as the toilet next time. Overall, just remember that it will take time to get your puppy properly potty trained, so have patience and be consistent.

Cat Urine Odor Answers

By Angela Suarez

There are over 88 million households in America that own cats. Many of these households also face the burden of eliminating that nasty cat urine odor as well.

Even if you have a perfectly behaved cat, he just may try to mark his turf! This means your floor, rugs, corners of rooms, etc. After this happens it can be difficult to remove the strong ammonia like odor if you do not know what to do.

This article examines some simple ways to clear the air.

Removing Urine and Odors from Fabric Surfaces :

When you find a urine spot, do not rub! First, lay an absorbent towel on top and press to absorb any fluids left. You will need to keep repeating this step until as much liquid is removed as possible.

Next, rinse off the area with warm water (not hot). Again blot this up repeatedly, getting the moisture out.

The final step can take one or two forms. 3% hydrogen peroxide or Vinegar mixed with warm water (1 cup to a half gallon of water) works well to eliminate cat urine odor.

If you use the peroxide, pour some on a rag or cloth and blot over the stained area. Then, take a new cloth to draw up any remaining peroxide out of the fabric. As always, do be sure to test the solutions out on a hidden part of your fabric to make sure they will not ruin them.

For the vinegar, put the mix in a spray bottle and apply it uniformly. Lay a fresh towel over the area and put some weight on top. Leave that over night then vacuum thoroughly.

A dryer alternative is using baking soda to eliminate urine odors. This really only works for surface scents. Evenly sprinkle the soda on the surface. Leave it overnight and vacuum up.

Repeat this, but the second time take a damp cloth to the baking soda and rub it into the fabric. Let this dry and vacuum again.

Cat Urine Odor in Rugs :

For rugs, you can follow the same protocol as above with fabrics. However, if you still believe that there is any lingering odor then get a steamer to get rid of any traces of cat urine odor.

Alternatively go to a pet store and get a product that has odor enzymes to break down and neutralize it.

Different Floors

If you have different types of floors that you know will clean up well with bleach then use bleach in water solution.

Keeping the Box Clean:

Cats are notoriously fastidious. They want clean litter boxes. If you maintain your boxes in good condition it lessens the likeliness that your cat will urinate elsewhere.

If you happen to find another urine stain, clean it up immediately. If not, your cat will come back to that spot repeatedly because of the lingering odor.

An Intro To Dog Training

By Don De Good

Know your options well before you start dog training. There are now quite a variety of dog training methods available. Each of these training courses offers something different, with different price levels.

Puppy preschool is the first available type of dog training. This dog training course is intended for puppies between one and a half to 5 months old. The preschool lessons for pups typically take no longer than 6 or 8 weeks time. Because your puppy went through these training sessions it will be able to socialize better with people and other dogs. Your puppy will understand how to take a seat, stand still, and come to you.

The second option of dog training is intended for dogs that are over 5 months old. That course is usually referred to as basic dog training. These classes generally last for roughly two months. You can talk and travel on a leash is the message that a dog learns in it's first course.

The third option of dog training is the intermediate dog training. This course teaches dogs the same things that are to be learned in basic dog training, but in greater detail. The dog is now learning how to stay for a longer extension of time and is also learning to listen to other people given orders.

For dogs who are 5 months old and above, the intermediate dog training course encompasses 8-10 weeks of instruction. The dog should know basic commands given by its owner and/or should have finished a basic dog training course by now.

The advanced dog training program is the recommended selection for the next step in schooling your canine companion. Once again, we can see the course is very similar to the previous course. Dog training guide make you dog trainer and perfect for dog training. Think about taking the intermediate dog training course for a detailed look at extensive dog training. Even if you aren't in sight, the dog can sit down without it when the dog is taught.

This particular training course, which builds on the intermediate level, runs between two to two and a half months in duration. This course also teaches them to walk alongside their owners with no leash attached. The dog will also be gently prepared for the next course, called Canine Good Citizen. The final course is called Canine Good Citizen. 10 components are necessary to be learned by your dog for passing the course.

This course is strictly meant for those dogs that have completed all the previous courses. The test is quite tough and can only be passed if the dog is really well behaved. Depending on whether your dog can pass, the course can last for several weeks.

When you put all of these things into consideration it should be rather easy for you to find the right dog training course for your dog. To learn more, you may also speak with local dog trainers. A lot of trainers offer consultations at no charge. Now that you know enough, you she be a step high to having your dog into a training course!

Why Dog Training is Important for You and Your Dog

By Don De Good

I know I know, you probably think any sort of training will interrupt the wonderful relationship you share with your dog. Sure it does yell rather annoyingly when you take it out on walks, and you do have to lock it up during dinner parties given how it snarls and growls at your friends four year old, but that's all ok, because that's what dogs do right? Ummm... not really. Sorry to burst your bubble but in spite of not being a human being your dog too is expected to be polite. Sure his antics might seem adorable to you, you might think it's cute when he jumps up at neighbors and scratches up doors, but your dog's victims sure as hell wouldn't agree with you.

You may find it difficult to be the one to require obedience from your dog, and I can understand your reservations. Dog ownership does not turn you into a whip cracking tyrant, and it is a worthless thought to think that you are the one who must teach your pet who's in charge.

Your problem is that you have the wrong impression of what dog training really is. When we speak about dog training, we are not telling you to try to teach your dog to become human, to abide by human rules. Training is not an exercise to teach your dog that you are superior. What you are trying to achieve through training your dog, is to improve his approachability in social situations, and enhance the bond that you two already share.

You may be wondering, "How will this truly impact my life with my pet"? This is why it matters! The bulk of our lives are spent at work, drinking our lattes, in front of the computer screen. The limited amount of time we are able to spend with our loved ones and pets is often merged with socializing. On beautiful nights after work we go for a stroll in the nearby park, or down the road to watch the latest blockbuster at our friend's house. When our dogs behave badly, we are hesitant to take them along on these occasions. We proceed to leave our pet at home more and more, until finally, it ceases to be a part of our lives.

Much like us, animals experience feelings of sadness, loneliness, and depression when they feel deprived of attention from you and being left to sit alone in the dark most nights.

Although you may think that training will be unpleasant for your dog, you are creating a much worse scenario for your pet by avoiding it. With training, you will be able to bring your pet along so that you can both enjoy the companionship.

Obedience training is a means of letting your dog cope better with it's immediate environment. It grants every dog an easier life and makes them easier to live with. Training your dog will give you more opportunity to spend more time with your beloved pet, no matter where you are going and who you are going with.

Now is the time to give your pet a pat on the head and go out for your first training session. Simply teaching a few key words such as sit, stay, come, heel, and down, can dramatically change your pet's behavior. You will find that as training progresses, so will your relationship with your favorite companion. The best of luck!

Cat Cancer

By Moses Wright

Cat cancer is a legitimate concern of cat owners. A cat's life can be significantly shortened by cat cancer. Not all tumors are cancerous. If a cat shows any signs of cancer, the cat should be examined promptly by a veterinarian.

Approximately fifty percent of pet deaths are related to cancer. Unfortunately, the causes of cancer are not well understood.

Many of the signs and symptoms of cat cancer can be caused by other diseases. It is important for cat owners to have the cat properly diagnosed by a veterinarian at the onset of symptoms. Often, the faster that the cat is diagnosed with cancer and treatment is started, the better the cat's prognosis is.

Signs of cat cancer include weight loss and persistent and abnormal swelling such as a tumor. Cats with cancer may have a loss of appetite, a wound with discharge, stiffness or lameness, and difficulty swallowing, breathing, urinating, or defecating.

There are many different types of cat cancer. White cats are susceptible to developing skin cancer especially on their ears. Other types of cat cancer include lymphoma, mammary cancer, and bone cancer.

Some cats have developed cancer in the area where they have received vaccinations. Vaccine-associated sarcoma (VAS) is a relatively new health concern. If the cat owner notices any lump at the site where the cat has received vaccination injections, the cat owner should take the cat to be examined by the veterinarian to determine if this is normal swelling or vaccine-associated sarcoma.

Lymphoma is a type of cancer that is more common in cats than in dogs. Cats with feline leukemia virus (FeLV) are at high risk for developing feline lymphoma, but not all cats with lymphoma have feline leukemia.

Cancer in cats is diagnosed with physical exams, ultrasound, blood tests, x-rays, and biopsies. The veterinarian will recommend the best treatment for the cat cancer based on the type of cancer and its severity.

Surgery, chemotherapy, and radiation are methods of treatment for cat cancer. Treatment for cat cancer often includes pain management. Some preventative measures for cat cancer have been identified. Cats, especially white cats, should not spend excessive amounts of time in the sun which could cause skin cancer. The risk of mammary cancer is significantly reduced if the cat is spayed while it is young.

Considerations before buying chinchilla cages

By Sarah McAffee

So you've gotten your chinchilla and you're excited to get him or her home, but first you need a good cage for your pet. Chinchilla cages can be purchased in a lot of different styles and sizes.

When you start looking for a cage, look for one that is metal because chinchillas like to chew on things and he or she will not be able to chew through the metal.

Choose a house with a bottom tray for easier cleaning. Line it with news paper and keep it clean. You'll also need to make sure that your pets new home has enough room for play and exercise. Chinchillas like to jump and play.

When you get your cage together, you'll want to put it in a spot where there is no wind and it should be out of direct sunlight. Chinchilla cages should be located out of the sun because chinchillas have very long, thick fur and they like the temperature to be approximately between 60 and 75 degrees.

Now that you've found a good spot for your new cage, its time to put in some fun and accessories. Chinchillas like to hide, so maybe you can add a hideaway box or some tunnels. You could add some shelves for jumping and lounging.

A nice addition to all chinchilla cages is an exercise wheel. Its great for your pets health and it will keep your friend from getting bored. A hammock is another good addition for lounging and naps. There are more than enough of different things to add. Try some of these and just see what your pet enjoys the most.

Your chinchilla will need to stay clean and they like to bathe. They never want to get wet, so chinchilla dust keeps them clean and keeps their hair soft. When you go to purchase a dust bath house, find one that attaches to the inside of the cage. You will probably want to find one that detaches and is enclosed. You want one that is enclosed so your pet can take a bath without getting dust all over everything.

The final stuff you'll need is food, water, hay and some chew toys. Enjoy your new pet and your new cage!

Should You Buy A Male Or Female Dog?

By Rob D. Frickerson

Some dog owners claim that males are typically more hostile and destructive, particularly in small spaces. On the other hand, the ones being said to be more loving and easier to school are the female dogs or 'bitches'. You just can't generally say that these stereotypes are true and applicable to all since it will still vary from the breed of the dog. If you know how to manage a dog being in heat or is ready to undergo his pet to the neutering method, then you might as well go for a female dog. If you just can't get rid of those cute litters of puppies then you are more likely to take for granted the need to do something for doggie birth control.

You should know that the change of life is not something that female dogs have, thus, it is possible for female dogs to have puppies whenever they want to, not like with the human female that has a lot of issues to deal with first. You'll spend weeks every year trying to guard your female from males who can catch the scent from blocks away. On the other hand, if you have a pedigree dog that you want to breed, then having a female dog can become a financial advantage.

To mark their territory, which be from the outside of your home or even just around the corners of your room is something that male dogs can't really avoid doing. They do the marking of their ?spot? by urinating on that part so that they won't have the trouble finding it again. You can try to school a dog not to mark his territory, but you're asking him to go against his instincts. If you already have a male dog in your house and you have add another, then a fight on who becomes the boss is likely to be witnessed between those dogs. The control over the home is something that even the smaller dogs would fight for against the larger male dogs in order to insist who among them got there first.

Dogs of opposite sexes tend to get along better than dogs of the same gender. Although male dogs seem to be more malicious with each other than female dogs, there are a number of female dogs who don't like the idea of sharing their place with other dogs. Female dogs are generally easier to home train than male dogs, nonetheless, it will still depend on the dog trainer's skills and certain characteristics may vary according to the dog's type. Male dogs are considered as more lively and active, however, the ?highly strung? disposition are evident to some breeds may it be with their males or females. Many of the average individuals who are shopping for a dog would definitely look for a female dog. The idea that those dogs which are easier to train and less aggressive are the female ones is more likely to be the thought that they think in.

But, being highly temperamental is a fact with most female dogs that those people tend to forget. As for dog breeders, what they consider as pets which are easier to manage are the male dogs. You can't totally rely to what the gender can tell you when it comes to predicting the possible behavior of the dog since it cant be reliable enough. There are breeds that set aside the sex since some of their features are likely to be retained such as being calm and tolerant whether the dog is a female or a male. But males and females of breeds which are energetic, nippy and difficult to handle usually have those features within them.

Given that no scientific proof is presented that can make the guessing of the features of males and females and comparison for each gender possible, therefore, it would greatly depend on the individual judgment of the one intending to buy a dog the decision about the dog gender. Your choice is more likely to be determined by your childhood memories of having a pet or your desire to have the kind of pet that your friend also has.

You can recall of a gentle female Collie who once had cared enough for each and every litters of pups and that you may consider as the trait of an ideal dog to have. Or that rough and tumble large male dog may be the one that you can think of since it can tirelessly play, keep up and run hard with those curious children. If that's what leads you to decide whether a male or female is the best dog to have, then go with your feelings. For you, that will be the right choice.

Do you also accept the irritating howling and moaning when you take your dog for a walk? Is all of this really acceptable behavior for a dog? I'm afraid not. I have to tell you that even dogs have an expectation of being mannerly. The people suffering through your dog's misbehaviordo not share your opinion that it's cute when he climbs all over them, or damages doors.

Lymphoma In Dogs

By Moses Wright

Canine lymphoma, also known as lymphosarcoma, is a type of cancer that affects the spleen, lymph nodes, liver, and other organs. Dog lymphoma most commonly affects dogs that are middle aged and older.

Many dog owners are concerned about dog cancer since cancer poses a serious health risk to dogs. About fifty percent of the deaths of dogs are caused by cancer. Approximately twenty-five percent of all dog deaths are cancer related.

The cause of canine lymphoma is not known. The symptoms of dog lymphoma depends on what part of the body that the is affected by the lymphoma tumors.

If only the lymph nodes are being affected by dog lymphoma, the dog may develop abnormal swelling. Lymphoma in dogs affecting the lymph nodes often causes the lymph nodes to harden which can be felt as lumps. The dog with only lymph nodes damaged by the cancer may not experience other dog cancer symptoms.

Other tumors from lymphoma may cause diarrhea, vomiting, loss of appetite, and weight loss. Other types of lymphoma in dogs may cause shortness of breath, lumps on the skin, or bumps in or near the mouth.

Diagnosing dog lymphoma may involve blood tests or biopsies. While diagnosing lymphoma in dogs, a veterinarian may also use x-rays or ultrasound. The severity of the dog lymphoma is classified by how many lymph nodes have been affected by the cancer and if the cancer has spread to other parts of the body.

Canine lymphoma is classified in five different stages. In this classification system, stage I canine lymphoma is the least severe. Stage one describes lymphoma in dogs that is only affecting a single lymph node. If the dog lymphoma has spread to the bone marrow, multiple lymph nodes, and at least one organ, it is referred to as stage V dog lymphoma.

The recommended treatment for her dog lymphoma is usually chemotherapy. Dogs receive weekly injections of cancer drugs during chemotherapy treatment for dog lymphoma.

Dog lymphoma is a serious type of cancer that often causes the dog's death. On average, the dog lives four to six weeks after diagnosis if the dog does not receive chemotherapy treatment.

The dog life may be extended up to a year after diagnosis with chemotherapy treatment. Rarely, a dog may live over a year after diagnosis if it receives chemotherapy for dog lymphoma.

The dog owner should not feel guilty about the dog's medical condition. Some dog owners may be concerned that they may have done something to cause dog lymphoma. Though the causes of lymphoma in dogs are not well understood, dog lymphoma is not caused by the actions of dog owners.

Celebs Who Spend Their Lives With Cats.

By Robert Jizawa

For centuries we have been enthralled and entranced by felines. The ancient Egyptians are credited with being the first to domesticate cats; after this, they were bred and carried abroad by travelers who knew that they were perfect for companionship and as exotic beauties.

"The Cats" Broadway musical, is a good example of how these furry miracles can inspire artists of different eras.

Major literary works have included cats as central characters such as L. Tolstoy's "Master and Margarita." They were also important companions for celebrities such as Sir Winston Churchill, who insisted that his cat, Jock, was at the table before any meal was to begin.

To prevent his cats from letting in too much sunlight by opening the door into dark the laboratory, Sir Isaac Newton, invented the cat flap, now known as door flap. Invented in the 17th century, door flap is still a much needed article to help cats circulate in and out of the house.

Cats have even inspired scientists; Nikola Tesla ruminated about what electricity was while stroking his cat cat Macak while a child. Tesla was intrigued by the static and sparks that occurred as he stroked his friend and his curiosity ultimately led him to his groundbreaking findings in mechanical and electrical engineering.

People are easily entranced by a cat's graceful gait, their hypnotic eyes and relaxing purr. You can even find cat fancier clubs just for cat lovers as well as salons and pet clothing lines that cater to your feline's needs. Consumers not only love their pets, they also love to spend money on their pets and they like to buy specialty items--frontline for cats is an example.

Cats aren't only aesthetically pleasing; they also possess some therapeutic values. Contact cats can help lower high blood pressure according to a study published in 2002 by professors W.B. Mendes, J. Blascovich and K. Allen of the State University of New York. In their article called "Cardiovascular Reactivity and the Presence of Pets, Friends and Spouses: the Truth about Cats and Dogs," they explain the means by which cats can help lower stress and benefit someone's overall health.

Cats are low maintenance, house animals, that is one of the reasons for their popularity in North America. According to a research conducted in 2007 by the American Veterinary Medical Association , there are over 82 million cats, kept as pets in the United States. According to Wikipedia , cats kept exclusively indoors, benefit from a longer life span. They are less exposed to bacteria and diseases, are safe from cat fight injuries and are not exposed to risks caused by motor vehicles. However keeping a cat indoors or letting it out, is a purely personal choice, that depends on many circumstances. However loving your cat is a must. We are responsible for those we take in. Let us not, let them down.

Alternatives to Cat Declawing

By Moses Wright

There is significant controversy over whether or not declawing a cat is humane. While many cat owners may accept declawing as part of cat ownership, there are many more humane alternatives to cat declawing.

During the surgery to declawed cat, the and digit of the cat's toes are removed. The veterinarian may opt to to the claw instead of removing the end portion of the cat's toes.

The main reason that cat owners elect to get their cat's declawed is to stop or prevent destructive cat scratching. Some cat owners believe that they must have their cat's declawed to save their furniture and even themselves from getting scratched. A cat owner who gets the cat declawing to stop cat scratching during play may be disappointed when the declawed cat bites since they can no longer use its claws to defend itself.

Cat declawing can lead to complications such as changes in the cat walk which can lead to abnormal wear of the joints and skeletal problems. Declawing leaves the cat defenseless if the cat becomes a stray. Infection of the paw is another possible complication of cat declawing.

Decline can cause litter box problems. When a cat experiences pain from declawing, the pain may be worse when the cat digs in litter box. The cat may associate pain with the litter box and avoid the litter box.

Many organizations that promote the humane treatment of animals are opposed to cat declawing. Instead, there are a number of humane options available for cat owners. Trimming the cat's claws and providing scratching posts are a couple of the alternatives to cat declawing.

A cat's claws can be trimmed with a regular fingernail clippers. That cat owner can extend the claws by gently pressing on the cat's paw. The pink part of the nail, called the quick, should be avoided as they will bleed of cut. Only the very tips of the claws need to be cut.

Scratching post can be an effective alternative to cat declawing. If a cat refuses to use his scratching posts, the cat owner may encourage use by rubbing the scratching post with catnip and placing it near where any destructive scratching has occurred.

Vinyl claw covers are nail caps that are glued over the cat's claws. These vinyl claw covers come in a variety of colors and will stay in place for up to six weeks.

Signs and Symptoms Of Dogs Cushing's Disease-Have You Got A Beagle with A Pot Belly?

By Kate Rieger

What is dog's Cushing's disease? Dogs Cushing's disease is a common problem that affects geriatric pets, and is caused by overactive adrenal glands. This condition can easily be confused with premature signs of aging in dogs. Cushing's disease symptoms include:

* weight gain * hair loss * urinating in the house * increased consumption of water * increased urination * increase in appetite

Thankfully, this disease is treatable and once treated your dog can live a much longer and healthier life. This condition can be treated at home using homeopathic remedies.

In dogs, Cushing's disease can look like the debilitating effects of aging, so some pet owners may mistakenly consider euthanasia in order to let their pets go peacefully. It is very important to understand when your dog is truly just aging or if they are suffering from Cushing's disease. Your vet can help you determine what your pet is facing.

In dogs, Cushing's disease is usually found in pets that are around ten years old. Cushing's disease is more likely to strike in miniature dogs and in spayed/neutered dogs. Since it can strike just about any dog and there are very few known predispositions for the disease it is sometimes hard to diagnose. Even the physical signs of the disease can be similar to a variety of other health problems.

Because the symptoms are so much like aging it is important to note the symptoms that are more than common signs of aging. These can be extreme drinking(water) as 80-85% of Cushing's dogs will drink 2-10 times their normal amount. Another possible sign is a change in the color of your dog's coat, 85-100% of Cushing's dogs have a change in the skin or coat. 90-95% of dogs will also take on a pot-bellied appearance. By recognizing these signs you can treat the disease and make your dog live longer and more comfortably. Once you suspect the problem, a simple blood test could prove that your dog is suffering from Cushing's.

If Cushing's disease is left to progress without treatment it can lead to even more serious problems such as diabetes, congestive heart failure, failure of the liver and kidneys, and other problems like infections in numerous places on the body. These problems combined with Cushing's disease can prove fatal to your pet. So if you pet is exhibiting any of the symptoms for dog's Cushing's disease and they are over 6 years of age, it is best to take them to a vet right away for a diagnosis.

Ralph Lauren makes designer sweaters for small dogs. Ralph Lauren dog sweaters start at ninety-five dollars and can cost as much as one hundred fifteen dollars.

Ralph Lauren dog sweaters are made from either wool, cashmere, or a combination of wool and cashmere. They come in a several different styles and colors and can be purchased through the Ralph Lauren website.

Some small and home-based businesses specialize in customized dog sweaters that are made to fit the customer's dog. Since most manufactured sweaters only fit small dogs, a dog owner of a larger dog may want to look for a business that will make a dog sweater to fit the dog's measurements.

Some companies that make customized dog sweaters can be found by doing a search on an Internet search engine. People shopping for dog sweaters can often find cheap dog sweaters for under ten dollars plus the cost of shipping. For dog owners who want to make a dog sweater, there are dog sweater patterns available on the Internet.

Trendy or fun dog sweaters may seem like a way to express the dog's personality. Technically, it is the dog owner's personality or dog owner's perception of the dog's personality that is being expressed since the dog owner chooses and purchases the dog sweaters.

Using dog sweaters are typically based on the appeal of the sweater to the dog owner. However, dog sweaters can be beneficial for dogs with short hair that may need to spend time outside in cold or damp weather.

Your Reluctant Cat At The Groomer -Some Tips Before You Go...

By Virginia Sutherland

It is well known, cats have an absolutely amazing tongue that they use to keep their coat clean and beautiful. Sometimes, especially in what is called "the shedding season", or for cats with very long or thick fur, your cats own efforts may need some help. Getting an occasional bath can remove a lot of loose hair, which spells less hairballs, and less cat hair on your "fur"niture. It also keeps mats and tangles at bay while keeping kitty looking magnificent.

You're going to pay a good amount of money in order to send your cat to the groomers, and your cat will probably not be very pleased about the whole process. There is a variety of services a groomer can do for your cat. Some groomers offer fur trims while other will shave the cats completely with the exception of the head and tail. Most groomers will give cats baths and condition their fur.

Sending your cat to the groomer may be a great time for kitty's nails to be trimmed. Some groomers will even add polish to the claw with bows in the fur of matching colors.

As you can imagine, your cat may not be very cooperative during this process. Some cats will react with fear, others with aggression, while some will even like the feeling of the warm water.

Finding a groomer that has extensive experience with cats is important. Grooming a cat is very different from grooming a dog. A groomer inexperienced with cats can make the visit into a disaster. Groomers used to cats will have the right temperament and be gentle with the cat, while at the same time knowing how to safely restrain kitty while she is being shampooed and getting her manicure.

After you get your soft, sweet smelling cat back home she may be a bit miffed and feeling insecure. Don't be surprised if she hides out for awhile. The beauty parlor experience can be a frightening experience for a cat.

Do all cats need to go to a professional groomer? No, not at all. Most cats are quite self sufficient in the art of keeping themselves clean and beautiful. If you do decide to take your cat to be groomed, be prepared that it may cost a bit and have some extra delicious treats for her in order to get back in her good favor again.

Organic Dog Food

By Frank Williams

The requirement of healthy, organic food appears to apply equally to pets as to people, because many animal owners prefer to buy organic foods to feed man's best friend. One could be forgiven for being taken aback by the vast amount of organic dog food on offer in the market. Just as for humans, there are a lot of pet illnesses that one could cure or even prevent completely by the use of organic pet food.

For instance, organic dog food could reduce the risk of the dog getting skin diseases and allergies. The reason for the positive health impact is the absence of additives, chemicals, colourants and pesticides. Instead there are just grain extracts and high quality proteins as ingredients of organic dog food. Organic dog food also contains more nutrients, which is reflected in the higher levels of energy and the normal weight of the dog.

Normal dog food often causes diabetes and excess weight with all the concomitant problems that accompany these illnesses: back ailment, organ failure and decreased mobility. How can organic dog food help here? Well, organic food items for pets do not contain bulk fillers, they are nutrient-packed products that create energy not fat deposits. Moreover, it is best and a lot easier to prevent health issues than to try to treat them afterwards.

Good digestion and a stronger immunity system are the other main benefits that come with the use of organic dog food. Because of the lack of chemicals usually present in ordinary pet food, your dog will no longer vomit or experience gas or diarrhea. A healthier metabolism is what you will achieve with a healthy diet. Furthermore, the quality of the nutritional substances in organic dog food, boosts the immunity functions, thereby reducing the risks of infection and all sorts of specific diseases that affect dogs on a routine basis.

A large number of veterinarians point out that organic dog food substantially increases the life of any animal, to say nothing of the fact that it will pass through old age a lot better. It is quite common that pet owners who choose organic dog food, are also interested in eating organic foods themselves, sticking by healthy organic food that boost bodily functions and avoid toxins and disease.

Ask your local dog food provider about organic dog food and if there isn't any in your local shop, try to buy it online. There are plenty of web pages that sell such foods at fairly good prices.

One last bit, be very, very careful with dried dog food like biscuits, no matter what it says on the packet. A few years ago, I had a dog called Becky that remained at home alone during the day, while I went to work. I didn't like to leave her tinned food, because of flies, bacteria and vermin, so I bought dry food, which would not go off during the day. However, within six years she had contracted diabetes, which meant that I had to inject her with insulin every morning. Sometimes, she would have a fit. The vet said that it was very common for dogs fed only on dry biscuits to get diabetes, so check the food with your vet first or feed organic wet food.
