Kitten Names And Meanings

By Moses Wright

Naming the kitten is one of the first responsibilities of a kitten owner. Some kitten owners may feel somewhat stressed over this decision while other kitten owners are able to relax and enjoy naming the kitten.

The kitten will have this name for its entire life, so the cat owner will want to be comfortable with the chosen name. The kitten owner may want to browse one of the lists of kitten names and meanings available on many websites for ideas.

Many kitten names are based on the appearance of the kitten. There are several kitten name options that refer to the color of the cat's fur. For example, black cats might be named Raven, Ebony, or Shadow. White cats might be names Snowflake.

Sometimes, the cat's fur color is used in a more abstract way to create a name. Purity is associated with the color white, so this could be a good name for a white kitten. Black cats may be named Goth, Vampira, Wizard, Styx, or Hades.

The name chosen for a kitten may be a name from the place where the cat breed originated. Oriental or Siamese kittens may be given Chinese or Japanese names. Persian names may be used for Persian kittens. Many lists of kitten names and meanings also have the name origins.

Many kitten owners consider the kitten's personality when deciding on a name. A boisterous kitten may be named for this quality just as a shy kitten may be named for this quality.

Some common kitten names are the names of cats in comics, cartoons, and literature. Felix, the name of a legendary black cartoon cat, is a common cat name for black cats. When Disney's Lion King was popular, Simba was a common kitten name.

The name of a favorite author or historical figure may be a suitable kitten name. Since the kitten owner already has positive feelings about their favorite historical figure, they are more likely to continue to be happy with such a name for the kitten.

The kitten's name does not need to be decided upon immediately. The kitten owner may want to consider different possibilities and observe the kitten for a few days before deciding on a kitten name.
